A method of determining a disinfectant composition of a municipal water supply from a water sample that includes: (a) obtaining a water sample from a water source at a sampling location; (b) adding a chlorine-containing material to the water sample in the presence of an oxidation reduction potential (ORP) measurement device; (c) generating a plurality of ORP measurements during addition of the chlorine-containing material to the water sample; (d) estimating a concentration of one or more of free ammonia, fully combined ammonia, monochloramine, or a mixture of dichloramine and trichloramine in the water sample in which the estimation is derived from the relationship between the added chlorine material and the plurality of ORP measurements; and (e) determining a disinfectant composition of the water source at the water sampling location from the concentration calculation. A method of determining free ammonia composition is also included.

Contaminants are filtered from a fluid flow stream and the filter is regenerated by a process including steps of: providing a filter material comprising both carbon and potassium iodide; passing a contaminated fluid stream in contact with the filter material; adsorbing contaminants from the fluid stream onto surfaces in the filter material; passing an electric current through the filter material with adsorbed contaminant thereon; disassociating contaminant from the surfaces of the filter material; and removing disassociated contaminant from the filter material by carrying away the disassociated contaminant in a fluid flow mass.

METHODS FOR PRODUCING SYNTHETIC OLIGONUCLEOTIDES AND REMOVAL AGENTS FOR REMOVING IMPURITIES FROM ORGANIC WASH SOLVENTS USED IN OLIGONUCLEOTIDE SYNTHESIS

The present invention provides methods for utilizing blended compositions of acetonitrile and toluene as organic wash solvents in the production of a synthetic oligonucleotide, the blended compositions producing higher synthetic oligonucleotide yields than a pure acetonitrile wash solvent. The method also provides a process for removing one or more impurities from the acetonitrile and toluene containing wash solvent received as a waste stream from the oligonucleotide synthesis process. The process includes adding at least one of an iodine reactive compound, a sulfur reactive compound and/or an acidic reactive compound to the waste stream, and fractionating the waste stream. The fractionation produces an overhead fraction and a bottom fraction where the overhead fraction includes the acetonitrile and the toluene, and the bottom fraction includes the one or more impurities.
