Systems and methods for removing heavy metals such as selenium from wastewater with zero valent iron media. Air may be introduced directly into a reaction zone of a fluidized bed reactor filled with the media to catalyze treatment.

Polymer flooding produced water treatment

The present embodiments generally relate to the treatment of produced water comprising one or more water soluble polymers, wherein such treatment comprises: adding to the produced water at least one iron complex; and degrading at least a portion of the one or more water soluble polymers. This treatment may result in a reduction of the viscosity of said produced water and/or the degradation of the water soluble polymers which are contained therein.

MONITORING OF MEMBRANE FOULING

A method is disclosed for monitoring deposit formation in an aqueous process. The method includes providing a feed flow of aqueous liquid onto a receiving surface of a monitoring cell. At least part of the receiving surface is illuminated with a light source. Visual data is collected at a multitude of positions across the receiving surface, and the collected visual data is analysed. A quantitative scaling and/or fouling indication is computed for the receiving surface. The monitoring cell has an inlet for the aqueous feed flow and an outlet for a reject flow from the monitoring cell. The receiving surface includes a selective barrier membrane. The feed flow is directed to the receiving surface at an elevated pressure to produce a permeate part that passes through the selective barrier membrane, and a concentrate part that forms the reject flow.

A unit and system are operable with cooling fluid for handling effluent produced in a cleaning process of refinery equipment. A drum of the unit has an inlet for the effluent, a liquid outlet for condensed effluent, and a vapor outlet for uncondensed effluent. A shell disposed in an interior of the drum and has a passage communicating outside the drum. A heat exchanger is disposed in the passage of the shell. As the effluent from the inlet enters the shell’s passage at the distal end of the shell, the heat exchanger cools the effluent using cooling fluid cycled through the heat exchanger. Condensed effluent escaping from the shell can fill the drum’s interior up to a liquid level. Uncondensed effluent escaping from the shell can collect in the open space of the drum, being subject to further condensation.

A device for separating and extracting suspended solids and particles from a fluid is shown. The device can include a hydro-cyclonic process unit, a variable geometry vortex process unit, a reverse coalescence and flocculation process unit and a fixed geometry vortices separator process unit. The fluid to be treated can enter the device through a fluid inlet and travel and recirculate through the several process units. The process units can collectively induce vorticose separation of the fluid and separate suspended solids and particles within the fluid. The suspended solids and particles can then be extracted from the device via one or more extraction fluid outlets. After the desired amount of suspended solids and particles has been removed, the processed fluid can be discharged from the device.
