A system for disinfecting a fluid, including: a flow cell including one or more inlet ports and one or more outlet ports, wherein the flow cell is configured to communicate a fluid containing a biological contaminant from the one or more inlet ports to the one or more outlet portions through an interior portion thereof; and one or more point radiation sources disposed about the flow cell, wherein the one or more point radiation sources are operable for delivering radiation to the biological contaminant; wherein an interior surface of the flow cell is operable for reflecting the radiation delivered to the biological contaminant by the one or more point radiation sources; and wherein the interior surface of the flow cell is operable for reflecting the radiation delivered to the biological contaminant by the one or more point radiation sources such that a radiation intensity is uniform throughout the interior portion of the flow cell. In one exemplary embodiment, the flow cell is an integrating sphere. Optionally, the system also includes a photocatalyzing material disposed on at least a portion of the interior surface of the flow cell.

A water purification system includes one or more UV light sources that produce germicidal UV light and provide the UV light to a given amount of fluid contained in a chamber as a batch or as flowing through the chamber. An inner surface of the chamber, that may be reflective, is coated with a thin plastic film, such as polypropylene, that is highly transmissive to UV germicidal light. The thin plastic film separates the inner surface from the fluid, and the UV light passes through the thin plastic film to reach the fluid that is being purified in the chamber. The thin plastic film may be melted at relatively low temperatures to provide heat sealing of the surface to produce the chamber. Alternatively, the thin plastic film may be readily shaped as a bag or pipe that contains or directs fluid flow.

The irradiation device is capable of sterilizing the filtered water at a flow rate of 250 m.sup.3/h and a power consumption of 13 kW to eliminate 90% of S-size organisms immediately after a sterilization treatment.

The invention relates to a lamp module (10) which is designed to be used as an immersion radiator in photochemical reactors. The lamp module has a support body (3) with at least one light-emitting diode (LED) (1), a head part (12) for electrically connecting the at least one LED (1) and for mounting the support body (3), and an immersion tube (11) that delimits an area (19) in which the support body (3) is arranged together with the at least one LED (1). The area (19) delimited by the immersion tube (11) is filled with an electrically non-conductive liquid (100), which is transparent to the wavelengths of the radiation emitted by the LEDs (1) of the lamp module (10), such that the at least one LED (1) is completely immersed into the non-conductive liquid (100), wherein the head part (12) has connection lines (18, 18) which communicate with the area (19) for supplying and discharging the non-conductive liquid (100), and the support body (3) is designed as a heat sink which delimits at least one internal fluid path as a supply section (4) for the non-conductive liquid (100). The supply section (4) is connected to one of the connection lines (18, 18′) via the head part (12) and opens into the area (19) on the support body (3) side facing away from the head part (12). The invention additionally relates to a photoreactor which is equipped with a corresponding lamp module.

The housing is mounted to the water storage container by a bracket, the housing and bracket being configured to position the UV transparent portion of the housing and second portion of the heatsink within the water storage container such that the UV transparent portion of the housing is immersed in water and the second portion of the heat sink physically contacts the water when the water storage container is filled with water.

A purification apparatus includes a radio frequency (RF) signal source that generates an RF signal, first and second electrodes, and a conduit. The first electrode receives the RF signal and converts it into electromagnetic energy that is radiated by the first electrode. The conduit includes input and output ports and a chamber. The input and output ports are in fluid communication with the chamber, and the chamber is configured to receive an electrodeless bulb. The chamber is defined by first and second boundaries that are separated by a distance that is less than the wavelength of the RF signal so that the chamber is sub-resonant. The first electrode is physically positioned at the first boundary, and the second electrode is physically positioned at the second boundary. The first and second electrodes and the chamber form a structure that capacitively couples the electromagnetic energy into an electrodeless bulb within the chamber.
