Powder Compositions Including Chopped Coated Silicon Carbide Fibers and Method of Producing or Repairing a Fiber-Reinforced Ceramic Matrix Composite
A method of producing or repairing a fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite comprises delivering a powder composition comprising SiC particles and chopped coated SiC fibers into or onto a powder receptacle configured for composite fabrication or repair. After delivering the powder composition into or onto the powder receptacle, the SiC particles are densified to form a SiC matrix reinforced with the chopped coated SiC fibers, thereby producing or repairing a fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite.
METHODS FOR JOINING MATERIALS, AND MATERIAL COMPOSITE
A method for joining materials, includes: providing a first material and a second material, providing the first material with a grid structure at a joining point, and joining, in particular soldering, the second material to the grid structure such that a material composite of the first material and the second material is produced, wherein the grid structure is designed in such a way that stresses in the material composite are at least partly compensated by the grid structure.
Inter-turbine ducts
An inter-turbine duct includes a first annular wall with a ceramic composite material and including a first plurality of layers and a second plurality of layers, the first plurality of layers including a slot extending therethrough; and a first vane with a material of a metal alloy or a ceramic material. The first vane has a first end and a flange extending through the slot with the flange extending away from the first end and being retained between the first plurality of layers and the second plurality of layers of the first annular wall.
Turbine engine components with chemical vapor infiltrated isolation layers
An assembly for use in a gas turbine engine and method for making the same are described herein. The assembly comprising a CMC component, a metallic component spaced apart from the CMC component, and a spacer. The spacer having a first surface in contact with the CMC and a second surface opposite the first surface in contact with the metallic component, the spacer comprising a CMC substantially free of silicon metal with a porosity of between about 5 percent and about 40 percent by volume to chemically isolate the CMC component from the metallic component.
Carbon fiber/ceramic chassis
A chassis defines a system housing that houses a processing system and a display system. A chassis wall provided on the chassis includes a first carbon fiber layer that provides an outer surface of the chassis that is located opposite the chassis wall from the housing and a ceramic layer that is bonded to the first carbon fiber layer and located opposite the first carbon fiber layer from the outer surface. The ceramic layer provides additional stiffness to the chassis wall to resist deflection of the chassis wall into at least one of the display system and the processing system in response to a force. The chassis wall may include a second carbon fiber layer that is bonded to the ceramic layer and located opposite the ceramic layer from the first carbon fiber layer to provide an inner surface of the chassis wall.
Nonmetallic airfoil with a compliant attachment
An airfoil is disclosed. The airfoil may comprise a body portion having a leading edge, a trailing edge, a pressure side, and a suction side. The airfoil may further comprise a compliant attachment bonded to the body portion and the compliant attachment may be configured to connect to a support structure. The compliant attachment may have a coefficient of thermal expansion intermediate between a coefficient of the thermal expansion of the body portion of the airfoil and a coefficient of thermal expansion of the support structure.
METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING CERAMIC AND CERAMIC COMPOSITE COMPONENTS AND COMPONENTS MADE THEREBY
Thermally-conductive ceramic and ceramic composite components suitable for high temperature applications, systems having such components, and methods of manufacturing such components. The thermally-conductive components are formed by a displacive compensation of porosity (DCP) process and are suitable for use at operating temperatures above 600 C. without a significant reduction in thermal and mechanical properties.
Ceramic matrix composite component and process of producing a ceramic matrix composite component
A process of producing a ceramic matrix composite component. The process includes positioning core plies on a mandrel. At least partially rigidizing the core plies to form a preform ceramic matrix composite arrangement defining a tip cavity and a hollow region. Ceramic matrix composite tip plies are positioned on the preform ceramic matrix composite arrangement and within the tip cavity. The ceramic matrix composite tip plies are densified to form a tip region of the composite component.
Patterned abradable coating and methods for the manufacture thereof
A ceramic article includes a flexible backing selected from paper, woven fabric, non-woven fabric, polymeric films, metal foils, and combinations thereof. A green ceramic layer is on a first side of the flexible backing, wherein the green ceramic layer includes a ceramic material and a polymeric binder. A major surface of the green ceramic layer includes a pattern of features.
OPEN VESSELS AND THEIR USE
Vessels such as crucibles, pans, open cups and saggars, containing a monolithic ceramic material, and a ceramic matrix composite, wherein the monolithic ceramic material is an inner tart. A method for making oxide materials that can be utilized in the contact with corrosive materials and that allows for higher conversions in a given heating process.
