Method for joining dissimilar engine components
A method for joining engine components includes positioning a first plurality of thermal protection structures across a thermal protection space between a first thermal protection surface and a second thermal protection surface. The first and second engine components are locally joined by forming a first plurality of transient liquid phase (TLP) or partial transient liquid phase (PTLP) bonds along corresponding ones of the first plurality of thermal protection structures between the first thermal protection surface and the second thermal protection surface. The second thermal protection surface is formed from a second surface material different from a first surface material of the first thermal protection surface.
POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND
An embodiment of a PCD insert comprises an embodiment of a PCD element joined to a cemented carbide substrate at an interface. The PCD element has internal diamond surfaces defining interstices between them. The PCD element comprises a masked or passivated region and an unmasked or unpassivated region, the unmasked or unpassivated region defining a boundary with the substrate, the boundary being the interface. At least some of the internal diamond surfaces of the masked or passivated region contact a mask or passivation medium, and some or all of the interstices of the masked or passivated region and of the unmasked or unpassivated region are at least partially filled with an infiltrant material.
Methods of forming a cutting element including a multi-layered cutting table, and related cutting elements and earth-boring tools
A method of forming a cutting element comprises forming a first material comprising discrete coated particles within a container. The first material is pressed to form a first green structure comprising interbonded coated particles. A second material comprising additional discrete coated particles is formed over the first green structure within the container. The second material is pressed to form a second green structure comprising additional interbonded coated particles. The first green structure and the second green structure are sintered to form a multi-layered cutting table. Additional methods of forming a cutting element, a cutting element, and an earth-boring tool are also described.
Polycrystalline diamond elements and systems and methods for fabricating the same
Polycrystalline diamond may include a working surface and a peripheral surface extending around an outer periphery of the working surface. The polycrystalline diamond includes a first volume including an interstitial material and a second volume having a leached region that includes boron and titanium. A method of fabricating a polycrystalline diamond element may include positioning a first volume of diamond particles adjacent to a substrate, the first volume of diamond particles including a material that includes a group 13 element, and positioning a second volume of diamond particles adjacent to the first volume of diamond particles such that the first volume of diamond particles is disposed between the second volume of diamond particles and the substrate, the second volume of diamond particles having a lower concentration of material including the group 13 element than the first volume of diamond particles.
POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND COMPACT CUTTING ELEMENTS, EARTH-BORING TOOLS INCLUDING SUCH CUTTING ELEMENTS, AND RELATED METHODS OF MAKING AND USING SAME
Methods of forming a cutting element include sintering diamond particles at a temperature of at least about 1400 C. under a pressure of at least about 10 GPa in the absence of a metal solvent catalyst so as to form a polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC), providing a barrier material over at least a portion of the PDC, providing a carbide material and a metal binder comprising at least one transition metal element over the barrier material and the PDC, and performing a second sintering process comprising sintering the carbide material, the metal binder, the barrier material, and the PDC at a temperature of at least about 1400 C. under a pressure of at least about 5 GPa to form the cutting element. At least a portion of the PDC proximate an exposed exterior surface of the PDC may be at least substantially free of the metal binder.
