VISION-BASED POSITION AND ORIENTATION DETERMINATION FOR ENDOVASCULAR TOOLS
Systems and methods for vision-based position and orientation determination for endovascular tools are disclosed. In one example, a method includes receiving a two-dimensional medical image including a view of at least a distal portion of a medical instrument, the distal portion of the medical instrument including one or more fiducials positioned thereon, the one or more fiducials being radio-opaque and visible in the medical image. The method also includes detecting, within the medical image, a two-dimensional appearance of the one or more fiducials, and based on the two-dimensional appearance of the one or more fiducials, determining at least one of a roll angle of the distal portion of the medical instrument, and an incline of the distal portion of the medical instrument.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HIGH-BANDWIDTH MINIMALLY INVASIVE BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACES
Systems and methods for high-bandwidth, minimally invasive brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are disclosed. The BCIs are configured for deployment and operation in conjunction with a comprehensive interventional electrophysiology procedural suite. Three primary methods of minimally invasive electrode array delivery are disclosed: (1) cortical surface delivery, (2) ventricular delivery, and (3) endovascular delivery. Additionally, systems and methods for interacting with such high-bandwidth electrode arrays are discussed, including real-time imaging, signal processing, and neural decoding. Systems and methods for architectures for accelerating the underlying computational processes (such as graphics processing units or tensor processing units) are also discussed. Multiple applications of BCIs are discussed, with emphasis on restoration, rehabilitation, and augmentation of neurologic function.
Navigation system for and method of tracking the position of a work target
Navigation system and method for tracking movement of a patient during surgery. Image data is acquired by imaging the patient with a base layer of a skin-based patient tracking apparatus secured to the patient's skin. The skin-based patient tracking apparatus includes a plurality of optical surgical tracking elements. A computer processor arrangement is adapted to implement a navigation routine. The patient position is registered to the image data. The movement of the patient is tracked based on movement of the plurality of optical surgical tracking elements. The movement of the patient's skin is tracked by determining positions of the optical surgical tracking elements both before and after a deformation of the skin-based patient tracking apparatus. Movement of the patient's skin results in corresponding movement of the surgical tracking elements to provide a dynamic reference frame for use in continuously tracking movement of a patient's skin during surgery.
Redundant pneumatic circuit for reliability enhancement of vitrectomy instruments
Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for enhancing the reliability of a pneumatically driven surgical tool by providing a redundant, backup pneumatic circuit for supplying the surgical tool with pneumatic pressure at a normal pressure.
A SENSING UNIT FOR MEASURING STIMULI IN A BODY
A sensing unit for use in-body comprises a variable impedance circuit for connection to the distal end of a transmission line and reflecting a carrier signal received from the transmission line. The variable impedance circuit comprises a variable impedance component having an impedance which varies non-linearly with applied voltage, a sensor for generating a voltage in response to a stimulus and a voltage bias system for creating a voltage bias for the variable impedance component. The voltage bias sets the operation point of the variable impedance component, such that the voltage changes from the sensor change the impedance of the variable impedance component non-linearly.
ON-BOARD TOOL TRACKING SYSTEM AND METHODS OF COMPUTER ASSISTED SURGERY
A number of improvements are provided relating to computer aided surgery utilizing an on tool tracking system. The various improvements relate generally to both the methods used during computer aided surgery and the devices used during such procedures. Other improvements relate to the structure of the tools used during a procedure and how the tools can be controlled using the OTT device. Still other improvements relate to methods of providing feedback during a procedure to improve either the efficiency or quality, or both, for a procedure including the rate of and type of data processed depending upon a CAS mode.
BIPOLAR MAPPING SUCTION DEVICE
The present invention relates to a suction instrument, more particularly a bipolar mapping suction instrument, for surgical purposes and to a system for suctioning fluids and tissue and for monitoring nerve tissue. The suction instrument comprises a cannula unit, which comprises an electrically conductive outer cannula tube, an electrically conductive inner cannula tube, and insulation. The electrically conductive inner cannula tube is electrically connected to a first pole of the bipolar electrical connection of the second interface. The electrically conductive inner cannula tube is arranged concentrically in the outer cannula tube which optionally can be insulated from the exterior. The electrically conductive inner cannula tube is mechanically connected to the handpiece and/or the first interface. The electrically conductive outer cannula tube is electrically connected to a second pole of the bipolar electrical connection of the second interface. The insulation is concentrically arranged between the outer cannula tube and the inner cannula tube. The insulation is configured to fully electrically isolate the outer cannula tube and the inner cannula tube in relation to one another.
MEDICAL TUBE POSITION CONFIRMATION SYSTEM
A medical tube position confirmation system for confirming the position of a medical tube that is used to supply nutrients to the interior of a body by means of tube feeding while an end portion thereof is inserted into (placed in) the stomach includes a light guide that is configured to guide light entering through an incident end portion so that the light exits through an exit end portion, and is configured to be insertable into the medical tube so that the exit end portion is disposed in the interior of the stomach, a light source that is optically connected to the incident end portion of the light guide and emits light containing wavelengths that pass through a living body, and a control unit that controls intensity of light emitted by the light source, wherein the control unit controls the intensity of light emitted by the light source within an intensity range that equals or exceeds a first intensity specific to a patient and is lower than a second intensity specific to the patient.
Enhanced ablation and visualization techniques for percutaneous surgical procedures
A medical instrument for enhancing diagnosis and treatment comprising a handle, an ablation probe extending from the handle, a catheter extending from the handle. The catheter defines a lumen and the ablation probe is located within the lumen of the catheter. A port in fluid communication with the lumen of the catheter is configured for connection to a vacuum or fluid source, and application of a vacuum or an injection of fluid creates a consistent zone of permittivity around the ablation probe.
Biopsy apparatus and system
Certain aspects relate to biopsy apparatuses, systems and techniques for biopsy using a biopsy pattern. Some aspects relate to moving a distal portion of a medical instrument to one or more sample locations of the biopsy pattern and guiding the instrument to obtain tissue samples from the sample locations within the biopsy pattern. Some aspects relate to obtaining the biopsy pattern and adjusting the sample locations within the biopsy pattern based on various factors such as anatomical features.
