A vascular access system which may be configured for blood draw may include a housing, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a slot disposed between the distal end and the proximal end. The slot may include a notch. The vascular access system may include a cannula hub, which may be disposed within the housing and movable with respect to the slot. The cannula hub may include a tab extending through the slot. The vascular access system may include a cannula extending distally from the cannula hub. In response to the tab being disposed within the notch, a distal tip of the cannula may be disposed within the housing. In response to advancing the tab along the slot to a distal end of the slot, the distal tip of the cannula is disposed distal to the distal end of the housing.

An apparatus includes an introducer coupleable to a peripheral intravenous line, with the introducer having a proximal end and a distal end, a catheter defining a lumen between a proximal end and a distal end, with the catheter movable from a first position where the distal end of the catheter is positioned within the introducer to a second position where the distal end of the catheter is positioned outside of the introducer, and an actuator coupled to the catheter and configured to move the catheter between the first position and the second position. The actuator moves relative to the introducer in a direction extending parallel to a longitudinal axis of the introducer when the catheter moves from the first position to the second position.

Systems and Methods for Phlebotomy Through a Peripheral IV Catheter

An apparatus includes an introducer defining an inner volume, a catheter, and a guide member. The having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, with the catheter defining a lumen extending through the proximal end portion and the distal end portion of the catheter, and with the catheter configured to move between a first position, in which the catheter is disposed within the introducer, and a second position, in which at least the distal end portion of the catheter is distal to the introducer. The guide member is coupled to the introducer, with the guide member defining a lumen. A portion of the catheter is received within the lumen of the guide member when the catheter is in the first position, and the distal end portion of the catheter is distal to the guide member when the catheter is in the second position.

Devices and Methods for Fluid Transfer Through a Placed Peripheral Intravenous Catheter

A transfer device includes an introducer coupleable to a peripheral intravenous catheter, with the introducer having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, a catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and defining a lumen, a secondary catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and defining a lumen, and an actuator receiving the proximal end portion of the catheter and the distal end portion of the secondary catheter. The actuator is moveable within introducer from a first position where the distal end portion of the catheter is positioned within the introducer to a second position where the distal end portion of the catheter is positioned outside of the introducer.

Sterile bodily-fluid collection device and methods

An apparatus includes a pre-sample reservoir, a diversion mechanism, and a flow metering mechanism. The diversion mechanism has an inlet port couplable to a lumen-defining device to receive bodily-fluids from a patient, a first outlet port fluidically couplable to the pre-sample reservoir, and a second outlet port fluidically couplable to a sample reservoir. The diversion mechanism defines a first fluid flow path and a second flow path that are configured to place the first outlet port and the second outlet port, respectively, in fluid communication with the inlet port. The flow metering mechanism is configured to meter a flow of a predetermined volume of bodily-fluid through the first fluid flow path into the pre-sample reservoir, to meter a flow of a second volume of bodily-fluid through the second fluid flow path into the sample reservoir, and to display a volumetric indicator associated with the predetermined volume and the second volume.

NEEDLE ASSEMBLY AND RELATED METHODS

A needle assembly, such as a catheter assembly, having a needle shaft with a needle tip formed from a first rigid material for puncturing a subject. The shaft section, proximal of the needle tip can be formed from a second material different from the first material. The needle tip is attached to the needle shaft to form the needle. The first material can have higher rigidity than the second material and the needle can project through a catheter tube and used in a catheter assembly.

A capillary chamber for performing chemical and physical analysis using a plurality of whole blood samples is presented. Following a loading of the whole blood samples into a plastic tube, the whole blood samples are distributed into a collection chamber and the capillary chamber has means of adding respective vaccines or similar biological products into each capillary tubes. The whole blood is then analyzed using standard microscopic techniques with sufficient resolution and contrast to record the chemical and physical properties of the blood immediately after withdrawal.

A delivery device for delivering an instrument into a catheter assembly may include a housing having a proximal end, a distal end, and a slot. The delivery device may include a guide feature, which may be disposed within the housing. The guide feature may extend through the slot. The delivery device may include an instrument disposed within the housing and extending through the guide feature. In response to movement of the guide feature along the slot in the distal direction a first distance, a first end of the instrument may be advanced in the distal direction a second distance, which may be greater than the first distance. A second end of the instrument may be stationary with respect to the housing.
