Managing therapy delivery based on physiological markers

Devices, systems, and methods may manage therapy delivery to a patient based on one or more physiological markers. In some examples, a method includes detecting a physiological marker that occurs prior in time to a dysfunctional phase of a physiological cycle, wherein a dysfunctional state of the physiological cycle occurs during the dysfunctional phase without treatment, responsive to detecting the physiological marker, initiating a first phase of the physiological cycle having a duration of time. The method may also include, responsive to the first phase elapsing, controlling a therapy delivery module to deliver neurostimulation therapy during a second phase that begins prior to the dysfunctional phase, wherein the neurostimulation therapy is configured to treat the dysfunctional state.

A patient support apparatus includes a frame and a mattress supported by the frame and arranged to support a patient thereon. A sensor is included to detect moisture on the patient and/or the patient support apparatus. The sensor produces signals indicative of the presence of moisture on the patient support apparatus. One or more alerts are output in response to the signals provided by the sensor to notify a caregiver of the presence of moisture on the patient support apparatus.

CLEANING MEDIUM SCANNER SYSTEM

A system and method for testing a cleaning medium, such as toilet paper, after wiping a perineum is disclosed. The system includes an optical sensor configured to scan the cleaning medium, a user interface, an output device, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive sensor input from the optical sensor, determine the presence of a biological substance, such as feces, on the cleaning medium based on the sensor input, generate a data signal based on the presence of the biological substance, and transmit the data signal to the output device. The system may determine if the cleaning medium is soiled or unsoiled, and may also detect the presence of blood and other types of biological material.

INCONTINENCE DETECTION METHOD

An incontinence detection pad has an RFID tag in which an authentication code, such as an electronic product code (EPC), is stored. A reader in wireless communication with the RFID tag of the incontinence detection pad verifies that the incontinence detection pad is an authorized detection pad. Thus, unauthorized incontinence detection pads that do not have the proper authentication code are not able to be used in an incontinence detection system.

Foley type catheter embodiments for sensing physiologic data from a urinary tract of a patient are disclosed. The system includes the catheter and a data processing apparatus and methods for sensing physiologic data from the urinary tract. Embodiments may also include a pressure sensor having a pressure interface at a distal end of the catheter, a pressure transducer at a proximal end, and a fluid column disposed between the pressure interface and transducer. When the distal end is residing in the bladder, the pressure transducer can transduce pressure impinging on it into a chronological pressure profile, which can be processed by the data processing apparatus into one or more distinct physiologic pressure profiles, for example, peritoneal pressure, respiratory rate, and cardiac rate. At a sufficiently high data-sampling rate, these physiologic data may further include relative pulmonary tidal volume, cardiac output, relative cardiac output, and absolute cardiac stroke volume.

A system and method to handle urine includes collecting urine using a pad or garment, exposing the urine to an aluminum alloy to generate hydrogen gas and heat in an exothermic reaction, and storing the hydrogen in a sealed chamber.

ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY MONITORING

Example devices and techniques for sensing a parameter of a substance of interest are disclosed. An example catheter includes an elongated body defining a lumen. The lumen is configured to receive or house an oxygen sensing element. When the oxygen sensing element is located in a proximal portion of the lumen, the oxygen sensing element is configured to sense an amount of dissolved oxygen in a fluid external to the lumen. The catheter is configured to block ingress of the fluid into the lumen while the oxygen sensing element senses the amount of dissolved oxygen.
