Extruded polyacrylonitrile copolymer
The invention relates to a polymeric fibre derived from a copolymer of polyacrylonitrile and a comonomer. The fibre comprises a metal ion and/or silicon at from about 1 to about 15 wt %. A process for making the fibre is also described.
Antimicrobial polymer resins, fibers, and yarns with phosphorus content
The present disclosure relates to polymer resins, fibers, and yarns with permanent antimicrobial activity, and a method of producing the same. In one embodiment, the antimicrobial polymer resin comprises a polymer having less than 2500 ppm of zinc dispersed within the polymer, less than 1000 ppm of phosphorus, wherein the weight ratio of zinc to phosphorus is at least 1.3:1 or less than 0.64:1.
INORGANIC COATING COMPOSITION CONTAINING FUNCTIONALISED GRAPHENE AS A REPLACEMENT FOR METALLIC PIGMENTS
A coating composition having an inorganic binder, metallic pigments, a filler, and functionalised graphene for at least partially replacing a proportion of the metallic pigments in the coating composition is disclosed.
ZINC PIGMENT
An oxidized zinc pigment has been developed that can be used in a waterborne coating. The zinc metal allows for improved stability in waterborne systems while retaining the level of activity required for an anticorrosive material. This pigment is oxidized enough to prevent corrosion and still be dispersed in the waterborne coating, while still allowing for cathodic and anodic corrosion protection in the coating once applied to a metal surface. This zinc pigment may also be used in a waterborne ink or coating system and also for coated metal articles.
MODIFIED GRAPHENE AND GRAPHENE NANOPLATELET FOR ANTI-CORROSION COATINGS
A graphene-based zinc containing coating is provided to prevent or slow down the corrosion of steel. The graphene-based materials are selected from a group of modified single-layer graphene, double-layer graphene, few layer graphene, graphene nanoplatelet, doped graphene, and a combination thereof. The modified graphene-based materials in zinc-containing paints or coatings act as a barrier to prevent or slow down the diffusion of corrosive species to the steel surface to be protected. For such a purpose, the graphene has a high aspect ratio and good structural integrity, especially a lack of defects on the basal plane of the graphene.
ANTIMICROBIAL/ANTIVIRAL CONVEYOR BELT
An antimicrobial conveyor belt apparatus comprising multiple segments each having a body portion and interlocking fingers extending from the body portion. The segments comprise a polymer composition comprising from 50 wt. % to 99.9 wt. % of a polymer, from 0.01 wt % to 10 wt % zinc, optionally from a zinc compound, less than 1 wt % of a phosphorus compound, and from 0 wt % to 20 wt % molding additives. The conveyor belt apparatus (or the segments thereof) demonstrates a Staphylococcus aureus log reduction greater than 1.0, as determined via ISO 22196:2011.
FILM
A film contains a fluororesin, a chromatic pigment, and a black pigment, in which a visible light transmittance of the film is from 5 to 60% and a haze value of the film is 30% or less.
Chrome-free leather retanning
A method for forming chrome-free retanned leather including: (a) contacting wet white (chrome-free tanned hide) with a retanning mixture comprising from 2% to 15%, by solids weight, based on the wet weight of the wet white, of an amphoteric polymer composition comprising amine functional units and acid functional units; and (b) applying a polymeric overcoat containing an acrylic copolymer with one or more metal transition elements, with a thickness of no greater than 100 microns, to the retanned wet white, is provided. The present invention also provides a chrome-free retanned leather formed by the method.
Wax coating over phosphate coating for vehicle components
A coating for vehicle components, such as frame assemblies and cradle assemblies formed of steel, is provided. The coating includes a first layer including a high phosphate composition applied to the substrate, and a second layer including wax applied to the first layer. For example, the first layer can include a first inorganic acid, an inorganic salt, a second inorganic acid, nickel salt, and ammonium bifluoride; and the second layer can include petroleum, carbon black pigment, and a corrosion inhibitor, the corrosion inhibitor including magnesium. The coating has been found to improve corrosion resistance when applied to steel substrates, compared to wax coatings which are currently applied to steel substrates.
