System and method for contactless monitoring of CO2 in neonatals
A system for contactless monitoring of gas levels within an incubator, the system comprising at least one gas sampling line having a proximal end exposed to the internal space of the incubator, and a distal end associated with a monitoring unit for receiving a gas sample obtained from the incubator via the proximal end.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS TO ESTIMATE HUMAN LENGTH
Systems and methods use a three-dimensional snapshot of an infant, child, adolescent, or adult where the subject may have bent legs and an unaligned head position, to provide an estimate of human length. The system identifies anatomical features from the digital information and generates a virtual skeleton. The cumulative distances between pseudo-joints of the virtual skeleton provide an estimate of human length. Comparing length estimates from multiple three-dimensional snapshots of the same individual acquired over time provide an indication of growth of the infant, child, or adolescent. Daily estimates of length can detect growth faltering sooner than less frequent estimates of length, which can lead to timely intervention.
Method and apparatus for indicating the emergence of an ulcer
A method of monitoring a patient's foot forms a thermogram of the sole of at least one foot of the patient, and determines whether the thermogram presents at least one of a plurality of prescribed patterns. The method also compares the thermogram against a prior thermogram of the same foot, and produces output information indicating the emergence of an ulcer on a given portion on the at least one foot as a function of 1) whether the thermogram is determined to present the at least one pattern, and 2) the comparison with the prior thermogram, which shows non-ulcerated tissue at the given location.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING CALIBRATION IMAGES FOR COUCH POSITION CALIBRATION
The present disclosure provides a system and method for couch position calibration. The method may include obtaining one or more first images of a couch at one or more first locations in a first device, each of the one or more first images corresponding to one of the one or more first locations, wherein the couch includes a mark, and the mark intersects a first reference plane of the first device at a plurality of first points of the mark; determining, in each of the one or more first images, a first position of a representation of each of the plurality of first points; obtaining correlation information between the first position and actual position of each of the plurality of first points; and determining one or more calibration images based on the correlation information and the one or more first images.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GUIDING AN INSTRUMENT BY A LUMINOUS POINTER
An instrument, a magnetic resonance imaging scanner and a method for operating the magnetic resonance imaging scanner with the instrument in which the instrument is aligned with a patient. The medical instrument comprises a first projector for projecting a luminous pointer in a predetermined alignment relative to the medical instrument. The magnetic resonance imaging scanner comprises a positioning aid configured to mark a predetermined position on an inner wall of a patient tunnel in a manner that is visible to a user. In the method, a predetermined alignment of the first projector relative to the medical instrument or position of the positioning aid on the wall of the patient tunnel is ascertained in which the luminous pointer of the first projector coincides with the positioning aid when the medical instrument is aligned parallel to a trajectory through an entry point on the patient and a target point in the patient and the medical instrument is aligned such that the luminous pointer and the positioning aid coincide.
Method and apparatus for cuff-less blood pressure measurement in a mobile device
A system and method is presented for cuff-less blood pressure measurement in a mobile device. A key aspect of this disclosure is the discovery of a new location for blood pressure measurement at the fingertip of a subject and that reflectance-mode photoplethysmography can be used to help make this measurement. Through experiments in human subjects, it was discovered that it is indeed possible to measure systemic blood pressure by having a subject press the fingertip against a reflectance-mode photo-plethysmography-force sensor unit under visual guidance and then compute blood pressure from the resulting variable-amplitude blood volume oscillations and applied pressure via an oscillometric algorithm.
Method and system for superimposing virtual anatomical landmarks on an image
A system for superimposing virtual anatomical landmarks on an image includes a medical positioning system (MPS) for producing location readings with respect to points within a region of interest in accordance with an output of a location sensor disposed in a medical device. A coordinate system of the MPS is registered with an image coordinate system. A control unit receives a signal from a user to record a location reading when the medical device is at a desired point in the region of interest where the user desires to place a virtual landmark, modifies the recorded location reading for motion compensation, transforms the motion-compensated location reading from the MPS coordinate system to the image coordinate system to produce a target location, and then superimposes a representation of the virtual landmark on the image at the target location.
Muscle fatigue measuring device and associated systems and methods
Exemplary embodiments are directed to muscle fatigue measuring devices that include a bottom stabilizing portion, a handle, a central extended portion, and a force measuring device. The central extended portion can be disposed between the bottom stabilizing portion and the handle. The force measuring device can be connected to the handle. The force measuring device can be adapted to measure a force applied to the handle. Exemplary embodiments are also directed to methods of measuring muscle fatigue and muscle fatigue measuring systems.
Devices and methods for identifying and monitoring changes of a suspect area of a patient
A device for acquiring first and subsequent images of a suspect area on a patient and methods for monitoring or detecting changes of the suspect area over time and providing notification when the changes exceed a threshold. The device may be an imaging device, such as a digital camera, possibly augmented with physical or optical devices for arranging the orientation and/or distance of the imaging device with respect to the suspect area. In addition, methods for identifying, relocating, acquiring a first and/or subsequent image of the suspect area, and performing a comparative analysis of respective images are also described. Results of the comparative analysis can be used to notify and/or assist a medical professional in treating or counseling the patient.
