Provided are a liquid dispersion of fluoride particles having a refractive index lower than that of, for example, magnesium fluoride, the liquid dispersion being excellent in dispersibility and suitable for production of an optical film such as an antireflection film; a composition for forming an optical film; and an optical film. A liquid dispersion of fluoride particles according to the present invention contains: fluoride particles; an anionic surfactant as a dispersant for the fluoride particles; and an organic solvent, wherein the fluoride particles contain at least aluminum, an alkali metal, and an alkaline earth metal as an optional element in a composition of the fluoride particles, and the fluoride particles are dispersed in the organic solvent.

A method of coating a cementitious and/or masonry substrate includes applying an aqueous coating composition to the cementitious and/or masonry substrate. The aqueous coating composition includes at least one pigment, optionally at least one filler, at least one emulsified polymeric binder, at least one water-soluble silicate, and optionally at least one additive. The emulsified polymeric binder includes at least one of: a)(meth)acrylamide or derivative thereof as a polymerized monomer; or b) 1 weight % or more of at least one surfactant based on the total dry weight of the total monomer in the emulsified polymeric binder. The aqueous coating composition has a weight ratio of emulsified polymeric binder to the water-soluble silicate from 65:35 to 95:5 on a dry weight basis. The aqueous coating composition also has a pigment volume concentration (PVC) from 5% to 85.

An aqueous formulation that has at least one aqueous hydrophobizing agent and at least one water-soluble cationic polymer can be used to produce aqueous coating compositions that have improved early rain resistance. The water-soluble cationic polymer can have quaternary ammonium groups and amino groups. The hydrophobizing agent is an aqueous silicone resin emulsion, a silicone oil emulsion, an emulsion or microemulsion of an amino-functional silicone oil, a silane emulsion, or mixtures thereof.

Coating Composition and Articles Made Therefrom

The instant invention provides an aqueous dispersion, a coating composition, coating layers and coated article made therefrom. The coating composition according to the present invention comprises: (1) the inventive aqueous dispersion comprising the melt blending product of: (a) from 50 to 99 percent by weight of one or more first polyesters, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said one or more first polyesters have an acid number in the range of from less than 15, for example less than 10, or in the alternative less than 5, based on the total solid content of the one or more first polyesters; (b) from 1 to 50 percent by weight of one or more stabilizing agents comprising at least one second polyester, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said second polyester has a carboxylic acid group and an acid number equal to or greater than 15, for example greater than 20, based on the solid content of the second polyester; (c) one or more neutralizing agents; and (d) from 15 to 90 percent by weight of water, based on the total weight of the dispersion; wherein said dispersion has a solid content of 10 to 85 percent, based on the total weight of the dispersion; and (2) one or more cross-linking agents.
