The Use of Tristyrylphenol Alkoxylate Sulfosuccinates in Emulsion Polymerization and Coatings
Disclosed are the use of novel surfactants for the synthesis of emulsion polymer latexes, particularly those used in paints, coatings, and pressure sensitive adhesives. The surfactant compositions for emulsion polymer latexes comprise sterically bulky surfactants whose composition comprises at least one alkoxylated polyaryl substituted aromatic sulfosuccinate compound. The novel surfactants provide for the production of stable, small particle size distribution emulsion polymer latexes. The resulting latexes, when formulated into latex paint, impart improvements in water resistance as measured by film opacity, blister resistance and improved leveling characteristics, and when formulated into pressure sensitive adhesives, provide improved water resistance characteristics as measured by film opacity.
Functionalized ketone-aldehyde condensation resins
A functionalized ketone-aldehyde condensation resin is produced by condensing a ketone and an aldehyde in the presence of at least one alcohol or alkoxylate thereof, wherein the alcohol comprises amino alcohols and derivatives thereof, hydroxybutyl vinyl ether, OH-functional acrylates, OH-functional terpenes, OH-functional halogen compounds, hydroxycarboxylic acids, sulphur-containing alcohols, hydroxyl-containing urea derivatives, carbohydrates, siloxanes, OH-functional phosphorus compounds or unsaturated alcohols.
LOW BAKE AUTODEPOSITION COATINGS
Autodeposition coating compositions that deposit uncured coatings, on metallic surfaces of a substrate, which are curable at oven temperatures of less than 130 C., are provided as well as autodeposition methods, compositions and components for depositing such autodeposition coatings. More particularly, the invention relates to autodeposition coatings that cure at temperatures lower than conventional autodeposition coatings, while achieving chemical and corrosion performance comparable to higher temperature cure autodeposition coatings, as well as being directed to autodeposition coating compositions possessing improved storage stability and coating thermal stability, and articles of manufacture having cured and uncured autodeposited coatings deposited thereon.
Aqueous compositions having polyalkoxylate salts for improved open time
The present invention provides aqueous compositions which have low or zero volatile organic content (VOC) comprising (i) an open time additive composition of one or more phosphorus acid salts, preferably a phosphoric acid salt, and one or more polyalkoxylates having from 2 to 15 polyalkoxylate chains and an ethylene oxide (EO) content ranging from 20 to 70 wt. %, based on the total weight of polyalkoxylate solids in the composition. The (i) additive compositions may have a solids content as high as 95 wt. %. Further, the compositions may comprise (ii) one or more aqueous polymer, such as for use in coatings or non-cementitious mortars.
N-Alkyl Glucamine-Based Universal Pigment Dispersions
The invention relates to aqueous binder-free pigment dispersions containing (A) at least one organic and/or inorganic pigment, (B) one or more dispersing agents and/or surfactants, (C) at least one base of formula (I), where R.sup.1 is H, C.sub.1-C.sub.4-alkyl, CH.sub.2CH.sub.2OH or CH.sub.2CH(CH.sub.3)OH, (D) optionally, one or more polyalkylene glycols, (E) optionally, other additives commonly used for making aqueous pigment dispersions, and (F) water.

Preparation of aqueous green inkjet compositions
An aqueous organic pigment dispersion contains a green copper phthalocyanine pigment and an azo-coupled -ketoamide pigment. It also includes an organic pigment dispersant at 40 weight % to 100 weight %, based on the sum of the weights of the organic pigments. This aqueous organic pigment dispersion can be combined with a humectant to provide an aqueous green inkjet ink composition. The weight ratio of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment to the azo-coupled -ketoamide pigment is from 1:1 to 10:1. The median particle diameter of each of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment and the azo-coupled -ketoamide pigment is less than 85 nm. At least 95% of the total particles of each of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment and the azo-coupled -ketoamide pigment have a particle diameter of less than 150 nm. The aqueous green inkjet ink compositions can be used in various inkjet printing methods.
Printed substrate and method for printing onto a substrate
A method for printing onto a substrate is disclosed. An ink is printed onto a liquid polymer layer to form a printed polymer layer. Printed substrates are also disclosed.
ROSIN-BASED POLYMER FOR STAIN-BLOCKING COATING COMPOSITIONS
A shellac-substitute is described herein in the form of an acid-functional polymer or an acid-functional polyester polymer. The acid-functional polyester polymer, among other uses, is suitable for stain-blocking with coating compositions, such as primers, sealants, stain-blocking coating compositions, odor-blocking compositions, and/or varnishes.
WATER-BASED ELASTOMERIC COATING FORMULATION METHOD AND ELASTOMERIC COATING FORMED USING SAME
The disclosed technology generally relates to methods of forming foamed and non-foamed aqueous rubbers for use in automotive applications and which are configured to provide vibration and noise damping. In one aspect, a method of forming an elastomer comprises forming a latex solution and then curing the latex solution. Forming the latex solution comprises forming a medium by mixing water and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (glycol ether EB) and then adding to the medium a rheology modifier, a dispersing agent, a wetting agent, a filler material, and a latex suspension. Water makes up 50-90 wt. % of the latex solution.
