COMPOSITIONS AND COATINGS WITH NON-CHROME CORROSION INHIBITOR PARTICLES
Compositions are described for protecting a metal surface against corrosion. The composition includes a corrosion-inhibiting particle. The corrosion inhibiting particle may be usable in an epoxy resin-based coating or an olefin resin-based coating. The particle may include a core and a protectant. The core may include a water soluble corrosion inhibitor. The protectant may be disposed on at least a portion of a surface of the core and may be covalently or ionically bonded to a thiol group of the corrosion inhibitor. The protectant may be configured to reduce reaction between the core and the epoxy resin or the olefin resin. Methods of making the compositions are also disclosed.
AQUEOUS DISPERSION OF MULTISTAGE POLYMER PARTICLES
The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of multistage polymer particles comprising a first and a second phase, wherein the first phase comprises structural units of a carboxylic acid monomer or a salt thereof, and a nonionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer; and wherein the second phase comprises a first and second polymer, wherein the first phase or the second phase first polymer or both comprise structural units of a high T.sub.g hydrophobic monomer; and wherein the second phase second polymer comprises at least 80 percent structural units of styrene. The high T.sub.g hydrophobic monomer is defined as being one or more of the following monomers: cyclohexyl methacrylate, isobornyl methacrylate, 4-t-butyl methacrylate, t-butylstyrene, or n-butyl methacrylate. The multistage polymer particles are useful as opaque polymers, which are used in pigmented coating formulations to reduce the load of TiO.sub.2. The particles exhibit excellent collapse resistance and unusually low dry bulk density, and do not require acrylonitrile to achieve this desired combination of properties.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE SOUND INSULATION PAINT
The present invention relates to a high-performance sound insulation paint showing a sound absorption effect, and provides a sound insulation paint for coating including 15 to 25 weight % of soda-lime borosilicate glass, 36 to 46 weight % of a binder, 8 to 15 weight % of titanium dioxide, 8 to 15 weight % of aluminum potassium silicate, 20 to 30 weight % of water, and 2 to 5 weight % of Texanol.
Solvent System and Method of Preparing Water Based Aerosol Base Paint
The invention relates to a solvent system, which consists of a liquid present in the cup of an aerosol can filling device, said cup having functionally connected thereto mechanized color paste dispensing elements which enable dispensing into the filling device's cup one color paste in an amount A, which is at least A.sub.min, as well as of an aerosol base paint present in the aerosol can. The solvent system comprises:the liquid present in the cup of an aerosol can filling device, which liquid occupies a volume V1 of a filling volume V2 of the cup and which liquid comprises a color paste mixture and additionally possibly also water and a binder, said color paste mixture having been produced into the cup by dispensing into the cup, with mechanized dispensing elements, individual color tone pastes which make up a tint of said color paste mixture, in a ratio defined by a color tone recipe for said color paste mixturethe aqueous aerosol base paint present in an aerosol can with a filling volume V, which base paint, as a liquid under pressure, occupies a total volume Vt=VV2 of said aerosol can filling volume V, whereby said aerosol base paint in liquid form under pressure comprises a water-compatible solvent 20-60% by volume, a binder 20-60% by volume, and a propellant 30-60% by volume, preferably 35-45% by volume, and wherein the solvent system has the minimum amount A.sub.min of the color paste mixture, as well as a total amount A.sub.tot of the color paste mixture, adapted to depend on the aggregate amount of a binder in the aerosol can as well as a binder in the cup.
Water-Based Aerosol Paint
The invention relates to a water based paint composition to be used in a pressurized and sealed aerosol can and which composition contains A) up to 24% w/w of propellant gas which is dimethyl ether (DME); B) up to 76% w/w of coating material, consisting nonvolatile content in the range of 65-95% w/w and volatile content in the range of 5-35% w/w;which volatile content contains water up to 0-100% w/w and additives, co-solvents and dispersing agents which comprise altogether of 0-9% w/w of volatile liquids, having 0-10% w/w preferably less than 5% w/w of volatile organic compounds (VOC) provided that the aggregate amount of dimethyl ether (DME) and the volatile organic compounds (VOC) in volatile liquids is such that VOC concentration is below 186 g/l (responding about 24% w/w, calculated as DME). In the present invention the nonvolatile content comprises color pigments and possible fillers in the range of 0-30% w/w, polyurethane modified alkyd resin or alkyd resin in the range of 25-99% w/w preferably in the range of 35-90% w/w and additives up to 9% w/w, which resin is present as an emulsified dispersion in water miscible solvent comprising water and dimethyl ether (DME).
WATER-BASED COATING COMPOSITION, AND MULTI-LAYER COATING FILM
A challenge of the present invention is to provide a water-based coating composition capable of providing a design superior in depth feeling in the formation of a multilayer coating film having a so-called color clear coating film. The present invention relates to a water-based coating composition comprising a coating film-forming resin (i) and a coloring pigment dispersion (ii), wherein the coating film-forming resin (i) comprises: an acrylic resin emulsion (A) having an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less in an amount of 10 to 60% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i),a water-soluble acrylic resin (B) in an amount of 5 to 40% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i), and a melamine resin (C) in an amount of 20 to 40% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i); and the coloring pigment dispersion (ii) comprises a coloring pigment (D) having a 90%-volume particle diameter (D90) of 100 nm or less.
COATED PIGMENT, AQUEOUS PIGMENT DISPERSION, USE THEREOF, AND PRODUCTION METHOD THEREFOR
A purpose of the present invention is to provide a fine coated pigment which is inhibited from becoming coarse particles and is easily dispersible. The coated pigment is a pigment, the surface of which has been coated with a resin, wherein the resin is an -olefin copolymer having an acid group and the amount of the resin with which the pigment has been coated is 10-50 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the uncoated pigment (X).
Enhanced performance of mineral based aqueous barrier coatings
A method for preparing an aqueous based coating system, and coating systems made thereby, for coating onto paper and/or paperboard for providing barrier to liquid, moisture vapor, oil and grease including a pigment and a polymer emulsion system or natural based binding system. One alternative of the method includes surface treating a pigment to form a pigment system and mixing a polymer emulsion system or natural based binding system with the pigment system. Another alternative of the method includes mixing a pigment and polymer emulsion system or natural based binding system and hydrophobizing the polymer emulsion system or natural based binding system by adding silanes, siloxanes, siloxane/silicone resin blends, or their carbon based analogs.
POLYMER THICK FILM DIELECTRIC PASTE COMPOSITION
This invention provides a polymer thick film dielectric paste composition, comprising a mixture of titanium dioxide and boron nitride powders, a resin blend of polyol and phenoxy resin, one or more additives selected from the group consisting of a linear aliphatic polyester, a block copolymer, a blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate, and a wetting and dispersing agent, and one or more polar, aprotic solvents. The paste composition may be used to form polymer thick film dielectric layers in electrical circuits subject to thermoforming and in articles requiring stretchable dielectric layers such as wearables.

The present invention relates to a pigmented aqueous basecoat material comprising a polyether-based reaction product which is preparable by reaction of (a) at least one compound of the formula (I)
