Antifouling film
The antifouling film includes a polymer layer that includes on a surface thereof an uneven structure provided with multiple projections at a pitch not longer than a wavelength of visible light. The polymer layer has a proportion of the number of fluorine atoms relative to the sum of the numbers of carbon atoms, nitrogen atoms, oxygen atoms, and fluorine atoms of 33 atom % or more on the surface of the uneven structure. The polymer layer has at least one local maximum of the proportion of the number of nitrogen atoms relative to the sum of the numbers of carbon atoms, nitrogen atoms, oxygen atoms, and fluorine atoms in a region 5 to 90 nm deep from the surface of the uneven structure. The local maximum is 0.3 atom % or more greater than the average value in a region 90 to 120 nm deep from the surface of the uneven structure.
Fluorinated networks for anti-fouling surfaces
According to one or more embodiments, a method of making an antifouling coating includes forming a polythioaminal polymer by reacting a fluorinated primary amine with an aldehyde to form an intermediate imine, and then reacting the intermediate imine with a dithiol. The method further includes depositing the polythioaminal on a substrate, and increasing a temperature of the polythioaminal deposited on the substrate to crosslink the polythioaminal and increase a contact angle of the substrate with crosslinked polythioaminal.
Copper-containing articles
A water-soluble composition includes reducible copper ions or copper nanoparticles complexed with a reactive polymer. The reactive polymer can be crosslinked using suitable irradiation to provide copper-containing water-insoluble complexes. The water-soluble composition can be used to provide various articles and electrically-conductive materials that can be assembled in electronic devices. The reactive polymer has greater than 1 mol % of recurring units comprising sulfonic acid or sulfonate groups, at least 5 mol % of recurring units comprising a pendant group capable of crosslinking via [2+2] photocycloaddition, and optionally at least 1 mol % of recurring units comprising a pendant amide, amine, hydroxyl, lactam, phosphonic acid, or carboxylic acid group.
WATERBORNE POLYURETHANE CONTAINING POLYHEDRAL OLIGOMERIC SILSESQUIOXANE
Methods of preparing waterborne polyurethane dispersions involving reacted units of a polyol, an acidic diol, a hydroxy functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, a diisocyanate, and a chain extender. Polyurethane coatings based on these waterborne polyurethane dispersions are evaluated on their hydrophobicity (water contact angle), mechanical strength (e.g. tensile strength, Young's modulus, elongation at break), and antifouling properties.
Polyamide nanoparticles and uses thereof
Nanoparticles of N-halamine-derivatized crosslinked polyamide. Process of preparing the polymeric nanoparticles per se and incorporated in or on a substrate. Uses of the polymeric nanoparticles and of substrates incorporating same, particularly for reducing a formation of organic-based contaminants, e.g., load of a microorganism or of a biofilm.
ANTI-MICROBIAL COATING FOR THE PREVENTION OF BIOFOULING
An anti-fouling coating comprising a polymeric compound, wherein a backbone of the polymeric compound is covalently bonded to a quorum sensing inhibitor, and wherein the anti-fouling coating has substantially no bactericidal activity, the quorum sensing inhibitor is substantially non-leaching from the anti-fouling coating, or both.
Click-chemistry compatible structures, click-chemistry functionalized structures, and materials and methods for making the same
According to various embodiments, systems, methods, and computer program products for click-chemistry compatible structures, additive manufacturing resins for forming the same, and method of formation of such structures and resins, as well as techniques for functionalizing click-chemistry compatible structures are disclosed. The inventive structures generally include a plurality of photo polymerized molecules structurally arranged according to a three-dimensional pattern, while surfaces of the structure are functionalized with one or more click-chemistry compatible molecules each having one or more click-chemistry compatible functional groups. The structures may be formed from single- or dual-component resins, each having unique synthetic pathways. The resulting structures may be functionalized for utility in a wide range of applications by leveraging click chemistry to further functionalize the structure with organic additives also compatible with click-chemistry reaction schemes.
AQUEOUS COATING MATERIAL, COATING FILM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SUBSTRATE WITH COATING FILM
To provide an aqueous coating material which is capable of forming a coating film excellent in stain resistance; a coating film; and a method for producing a substrate with a coating film. An aqueous coating material of the present invention comprises a fluorinated non-block copolymer which comprises units based on a fluoroolefin and units having a hydrophilic group, a fluorinated block copolymer which has a fluorinated segment comprising units based on a monomer having a perfluoroalkyl group and a non-fluorinated segment containing no fluorine atom, an anionic surfactant, of which the HLB value is at least 17.5, and water.
Surface Treatment
A surface treatment includes a functional component and a linking component, wherein the linking component is capable of hydrogen bonding and/or covalently linking with the functional component and is capable of hydrogen bonding and/or covalently linking with the surface to form a treated surface. The surface treatment provides a beneficial property to the surface when the surface treatment is bonded to the surface.
SYNTHESIS OF FUNCTIONAL FLUORINATED POLYHEDRAL OLIGOMERIC SILSESQUIOXANE ("F-POSS")
A method of forming a hydrophobic and oleophobic surface. The method including spin coating an F-POSS with 3,3-dichloro-1,1,1,2,2,-pentafluoropropane/1,3-dichloro-1,1,2,2,3-pentafluoropropane onto an inert surface. The F-POSS has a structure:
##STR00001##
Each R.sub.f represents a nonreactive, fluorinated organic group, R.sub.1 represents a first monovalent organic group comprising at least two carbon atoms, and R.sub.2 represents hydrogen or a second monovalent organic group comprising at least two carbon atoms. The F-POSS with 3,3-dichloro-1,1,1,2,2,-pentafluoropropane/1,3-dichloro-1,1,2,2,3-pentafluoropropane are then dried on the inert surface.
