A lubricating oil composition comprises 50 mass % or more of an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.1 to 25 mass % of at least one of compounds of structures (I), (II), or (III). ##STR00001## wherein X.sup.1 and X.sup.2 are the same or different and are OH, NH.sub.2 or SH; wherein groups R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different and are linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 50 carbon atoms, with the proviso that at least one of groups R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 has at least 4 carbon atoms; and wherein m and n are the same or different and are zero or an integer from 1 to 3 with the proviso that m and n are not both zero. The compositions are useful to ameliorate or prevent deposits in engines and provide good asphaltene dispersancy.

Prior high pressure lubricant additives have contained short-chained chlorinated paraffins which are toxic and harmful to the environment. An environmentally friendly high pressure lubricant additives is provided by combining 74.5% to 84.5% by weight chlorinated alkanes, such as PAROIL 310 NR or PAROIL 353 NR, and from 15.5% to 25.5% by weight mineral oil. The high pressure lubricant additive can be added to motor oil, or other lubricants such as hydraulic fluid, cutting oil, gear box oil, automatic transmission fluid and penetrating oil

AROMATIC DETERGENTS AND LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS THEREOF

The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.2 wt % to 10 wt % of a salt of a hydroxyl functional aromatic compound. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.
