Method Of Lubricating An Internal Combustion Engine
The invention provides a method of lubricating a compression-ignition internal combustion engine with a maximum laden mass over 2,700 kg comprising supplying to the engine a lubricating composition comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity, a 300 TBN or higher alkaline earth metal sulphonate detergent having a metal ratio of 10 to 40, 0.1 wt % to 4 wt % of a borated polyisobutylene succinimide dispersant, wherein the polyisobutylene from which the borated polyisobutylene succinimide is derived has a number average molecular weight of 550 to 1150, and 0.1 wt % to 6 wt % of a polyisobutylene succinimide, wherein the polyisobutylene from which polyisobutylene succinimide is derived has a number average molecular weight of 1550 to 2500, 0 wt % to 0.2 wt % of a phenolic based detergent, wherein the total amount of soap delivered by the alkaline earth metal sulphonates (typically calcium sulphonate) is 0.4 to 1 wt % of the lubricating composition, and wherein the lubricating composition has a sulphated ash content of not more than 1.5 wt %.
Lubricating oil compositions
A lubricating oil composition, a method of reducing low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in a direct-injected spark-ignited internal combustion engine, and a use of a lubricant composition to reduce LSPI events in such an engine. Preferably, the composition comprises a detergent package comprising a borated calcium detergent, wherein the detergent package provides a calcium content in the composition of at least 0.12 mass %, based on the total mass of the composition, and wherein the borated calcium detergent provides a boron content in the composition of at least 100 ppmm, based on the total mass of the composition. Optionally, the composition comprises a first detergent comprising a calcium detergent, and a second detergent comprising a borated calcium detergent.
Lubricating oil compositions
A lubricating oil composition, a method of reducing low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in a direct-injected spark-ignited internal combustion engine, and a use of a lubricant composition to reduce LSPI events in such an engine. Preferably, the composition comprises a detergent package comprising a borated calcium detergent, wherein the detergent package provides a calcium content in the composition of at least 0.12 mass %, based on the total mass of the composition, and wherein the borated calcium detergent provides a boron content in the composition of at least 100 ppmm, based on the total mass of the composition. Lubricant Compositions For Direct Injection Engines
The invention is directed to a method for reducing low speed pre-ignition events in a spark-ignited direct injection internal combustion engine by supplying to the sump a lubricant composition which contains an oil of lubricating viscosity and a metal overbased detergent. The metal overbased detergent may be selected from sulfonate detergents, phenate detergents, and salicylate detergents, especially sulfonate detergents with a metal ratio of at least 5.

The present invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising: at least one base oil; at least one olefin copolymer; at least one detergent; and at least one linear hydrogenated styrene/butadiene copolymer. The invention also relates to the use of said composition for reducing fuel consumption in an engine and for enhancing the cleanliness of a 4-stroke or 2-stroke, preferably 4-stroke, marine engine or of a stationary engine.

This invention further relates to matrix that comprises such reservoirs and the method of preparing such matrix. The present invention provides a lubricating composition comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity; 3 wt % to 30 wt % of an alkaline earth or alkali metal sulphonate detergent; and an oil-soluble polyalkylene glycol having a distribution of molecular weight such that the molecules thereof have a weight of 2500 to less than 10,000 Daltons and comprise 0.05 wt % to 3 wt % of the lubricating composition. The invention further provides a method of lubricating a 2-stroke internal combustion engine cylinder liner (and piston) with the lubricating composition.
