INGESTIBLE APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COLLECTING SAMPLES IN THE GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT AND/OR DELIVERING HEALTH-RELATED SUBSTANCE THERETO
20230061826 · 2023-03-02 ·

An ingestible apparatus for collecting samples from a target area of a gastrointestinal (GI) tract of a subject and/or for delivering a health-related substance thereto. An example ingestible apparatus includes a housing defining a sample compartment, a stopper configured to seal an access port, and an actuation assembly connected to the stopper. The actuation assembly is movable between a first working position where the access port is open and a second working position where the access port is sealed with the stopper. The apparatus also includes a dissolvable block configured to prevent the actuation assembly from moving between the first and second working positions until the apparatus is within a target area of the GI tract. The actuation assembly is configured, in the second working position, to apply a linear force at an interface between the stopper and a sealing surface to seal the access port with the stopper.

METHODS AND DEVICES FOR FALLOPIAN TUBE DIAGNOSTICS

Methods and devices for performing minimally invasive procedures useful for Fallopian tube diagnostics are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the proximal os of the Fallopian tube is accessed via an intrauterine approach; an introducer catheter is advanced to cannulate and form a fluid tight seal with the proximal os of the Fallopian tube; a second catheter inside the introducer catheter is provided to track the length of the Fallopian tube and out into the abdominal cavity; a balloon at the end of the second catheter is inflated and the second catheter is retracted until the balloon seals the distal os of the Fallopian tube; irrigation is performed substantially over the length of the Fallopian tube; and the irrigation fluid is recovered for cytology or cell analysis.

CELL-COLLECTING FALLOPOSCOPE AND METHOD FOR OVARIAN CANCER DETECTION

A falloposcope is described, and a method of screening a patient for fallopian tube and/or ovarian cancer with the falloposcope. The falloposcope can perform optical imaging, including fluorescence imaging and/or optical coherence tomography (OCT), and optionally include a channel for a sampling wire, within a diameter of about 0.7 millimeter. The method includes inserting the falloposcope through a lumen of vagina, cervix, uterus, and fallopian tube so a tip of the falloposcope is in proximity to a first fallopian tube or ovary of the patient; providing fluorescence stimulus wavelength through an illumination fiber of the falloposcope while imaging light at fluorescence emission wavelength through a coherent fiber bundle to form fluorescence emissions images; and determining suspect tissue. Then the sampling wire is used to collect cells from the suspect tissue for karyotype and other analysis.

Sexual assault evidence collection kit usable by a victim
11603245 · 2023-03-14 · ·

A sexual assault evidence collection kit that may be used by the victim or other non-professionals. The kit may be simplified compared to kits for professional use, and may be usable with no specialized training. Victims may therefore be able to collect evidence themselves after an assault, instead of searching for a facility with personnel trained in forensic evidence collection, and enduring a long, intrusive examination. Embodiments may include a package (for example a clear bag) and the following components inside the package: gloves, swabs, swab containers, water, evidence collection bags, evidence bag sealing tape, evidence collection tape, a permanent marker, and instructions on how to identify, collect, seal, document, and store evidence.

METHOD FOR COLLECTING SPECIMEN FROM GASTROINTESTINAL MUCOSA

Provided is a non-invasive and prompt testing method, in which a mucus adhering onto the surface of a mucous membrane is used as a specimen.

A method for collecting a specimen by wiping out a mucus adhering onto the surface of a mucous membrane, when the specimen is collected during an endoscopic examination.

SAMPLING SWABS AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME

A device to collect a biological sample may generally include an elongated rod having a handle and terminating in a tip; and a core and a plurality of projections extending in a radial direction from a surface of the core. The projections may have curved geometric pattern, such as a sinusoidal pattern, a circular arc pattern, and/or a helical pattern, for example. The device may include a layer of fibers disposed on a surface of the projections by flocking. Method of making and using the device are also described.

LARGE AREA SURFACE SAMPLER WITH INVERTIBLE BAG

Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed which relate to using a use large area surface sampler with invertible bag for collection of biological and non-biological particles prior to subsequent analysis. The large area surface sampler with invertible bag uses an inverted bag with bonded sampling material to first serve as a sampling device followed by the bag being turned right side out and the captured particles being extracted inside of the bag. The device includes measures for sealing liquid in the sampling material using a protective cup at time of manufacture. This enables users to simply remove the protective cup and perform wet surface sampling prior to turning the bag right side out and removing captured particles from the sampling material with repeated compressions. The described device, systems and methods allow users to capture and elute surface samples for human clinical, veterinary, food safety, pharmaceutical, outbreak investigations, forensics, biodefense and bioterrorism response, environmental monitoring, and other applications where collection of samples from surfaces and humans or animals is required.

Systems, Methods and Devices for Forming Respiratory-Gated Point Cloud for Four Dimensional Soft Tissue Navigation

A surgical instrument navigation system and method of use is provided that visually simulates a virtual volumetric scene of a body cavity of a patient from a point of view of a surgical instrument residing in the cavity of the patient, wherein the surgical instrument, as provided, may be a steerable surgical catheter with a biopsy device and/or a surgical catheter with a side-exiting medical instrument, among others. Additionally, systems, methods and devices are provided for forming a respiratory-gated point cloud of a patient's respiratory system and for placing a localization element in an organ of a patient.

SUBJECT SPECIMEN TOOL FOR VIRUS TESTING

The present invention relates to a subject specimen tool for virus testing and, more specifically, to a subject specimen tool for virus testing, which enables an examiner to collect a specimen of a subject by using a specimen collection swab, while being worn by the subject, and is kept airtight during specimen collection, so that a contaminant in a mask does not leak outside of the mask, and thus, contamination around testing and infection of the examiner can be prevented. To this end, provided is a subject specimen tool for virus testing, comprising: a mask for shielding the face or a portion thereof of a subject; a specimen collection swab which is inserted into the mouth or nose of the subject wearing the mask, to collect a specimen; a swab insertion/withdrawal hole part formed in the mask and having a path with a diameter sufficient for the specimen collection swab to be inserted thereinto and withdrawn therefrom; and a detachable cap configured to be detachable from the swab insertion/withdrawal hole part and having an opening means which is open to guide the specimen collection swab to the path of the swab insertion/withdrawal hole part, wherein the opening means is open only in one direction toward the swab insertion/withdrawal hole part.
