Devices and methods for extraction and collection of tissue samples

A device including a probe unit and a driver unit for tissue extraction and sample collection is disclosed. The probe unit includes an injection unit, a driving mechanism, a filtering mechanism and a tissue sample container. The injection unit includes a needle actuated by a prime-mover and the driving mechanism, which drives the needle into the subject for extraction of tissue sample. The tissue extraction is performed by a rotational motion of the needle and pressure. The pressure is provided by a pressure subsystem in the lumen of the needle and the tissue is collected in the tissue sample container. The amount of pressure applied is controlled by a control subsystem based on the organ specific requirement.

Image guided surgical methodology and system employing patient movement detection and correction

A method and system utilizes an imaging device that generates images of target tissue of a patient during a surgical procedure that acts on the target tissue imaged by the imaging device. The method and system enables visual detection of patient movement during the surgical procedure by marking at least one spatial attribute of one or more identifiable features of the target tissue illustrated in an image presented in a display window. Prior to acting on the target tissue, a visual indicator of the spatial attribute(s) is superimposed on one or more subsequent images captured by the imaging device and displayed to the operator. The operator can visually compare a position of the visual indicator to a position of the operator-identified feature in order to detect movement of the patient during the procedure. The system and methodology also facilitates realignment that corrects for detected patient movement.

BIOPSY DEVICE WITH REMOTE MULTI-CHAMBER TISSUE SAMPLE HOLDER

A biopsy system includes a biopsy device, a control module, and a tissue transport tube. The biopsy device includes a probe, a needle, a cutter, and a transport valve. The needle extends distally from the probe. The cutter is movable relative to the needle and defines a cutter lumen. The holster is configured to couple to the probe. The transport valve is in communication with the cutter lumen. The control module is in communication with the biopsy device and includes a sample management assembly configured to receive one or more tissue samples severed by the cutter. The transport tube extends between the sample management assembly and the biopsy device. The transport tube is in communication with the transport valve such that the transport tube is configured to receive the one or more tissue samples severed by the cutter.

Biopsy system for enhanced tissue harvesting

A biopsy system for harvesting larger volumes of tissue as compared to standard core biopsy needles. The system has a needle with a lumen, an aperture disposed at the distal end of the needle and connected to the lumen, and a cutting mechanism adapted to cut tissue. When the needle is rotated after it is inserted into a target tissue, the cutting mechanism cuts from the tissue and directs the cut tissue portions into the lumen. Multi-bioimpedance measurements are used to guide a needle and direct the application of electricity for cauterizing tissue.

INSERTABLE ENDOSCOPIC INSTRUMENT FOR TISSUE REMOVAL

An improved flexible endoscopic instrument to precisely and efficiently obtains samples of flat polyps and multiple polyps from a patient by debriding one or more polyps and retrieving the debrided polyps without having to alternate between using a separate cutting tool and a separate sample retrieving tool and may be used with an endoscope. In one aspect, the cutting tool is coupled to a flexible torque coil or torque rope that is configured to transfer rotational energy from a powered actuator through the length of the endoscope onto the cutting tool.
