Surgical Tool with Targeting Guidance
A powered surgical tool for a user to manipulate a desired tissue in surgical site within a patient may include a body having a tissue manipulation portion powerable and having a manipulation member for manipulating the desired tissue, and a projecting device with an exit port. The projecting device is powerable to emit an optical targeting marker from the exit port in a targeting direction onto the surgical site in a way that is operationally related to the operative direction and is visible to the user for providing information about at least one of a location and an orientation of the manipulation member and an operative direction within the surgical site. An imaging device may be provided to obtaining an image of the surgical site using an optical receiver attached to the body. The device may also measure and/or indicate distance to the surgical site.

The inserter tool is configured to insert an anchor into a bone of a patient to secure a soft tissue relative to the bone. A suture coupled to the soft tissue is secured relative to the bone by being trapped between an exterior surface of the anchor and a bone surface defining a hole in the bone in which the anchor is positioned.

An implant assembly may include a screw with a head having a head feature and an implant. The implant may be securable to a bone of a patient with the screw. The implant may include a bone plate, a rotatable structure having a top surface and a bottom surface. The bottom surface may include a lock feature. The lock feature may engage the head feature when the rotatable structure is in a locked orientation and disengage the head feature when the rotatable structure is in an unlocked orientation. The rotatable structure may couple to the bone plate such that the rotatable structure is rotatable between the locked orientation and the unlocked orientation. The head feature may be one of a ridge and a radial groove and the lock feature may be the other one of the ridge and the radial groove.
Method and apparatus for intraoperative measurements of anatomical orientation
Electronic devices that detect their position and/or orientation with respect to earth's frame of reference are described. A coupler can removeably maintain the electronic devices in physical proximity of one another. Each electronic device can have a housing and the coupler can be included on the housing and arranged to physically connect the housing of the electronic device to the housing of at least one other electronic device. Alternatively, the coupler can be a packaging that maintains the electronic devices in physical proximity of one another. Each electronic device can be calibrated using the orientation or position information obtained by other electronic devices maintained by the coupler. Further, each electronic device can include a power source that remains inactive until the device is ready for use.

A surgical system for use in establishing and maintaining an opening to an anatomical space of a body, the system comprising an obturator assembly having a cutting portion at a distal end and a cannula, the cannula being detachably coupled to the cutting portion and deployable into the anatomical space of a patient, the cannula comprises a locking portion, and a lengthwise extendable body; a valve assembly comprising a passage for receiving the cannula, a first end for coupling to a fluid extraction device and a second end for placement external and adjacent the anatomical space; a base comprising a plate for placement on a patient external and adjacent the anatomical space, the plate has an aperture configured for receiving the obturator assembly and coupling means located about the aperture for coupling with the valve assembly; and wherein, in use, the locking portion of the cannula is configured to be retained in the valve assembly with the extendable body extended into the anatomical space to facilitate a path for fluid extraction, and wherein the cannula comprises means for retaining the cannula in its extended state.
Ultrasonic surgical instrument with blade replacement features
An apparatus includes a shaft assembly and an end effector. The shaft assembly includes a first coupling member and a second coupling member. The first coupling member and the second coupling member are configured to flex toward each other from a first position to a second position. The first coupling member and the second coupling member define a pivot axis in the first position. The end effector includes an ultrasonic blade and a clamp arm. The clamp arm is configured to couple or decouple with the shaft assembly when the first coupling member and the second coupling member are in the second position. The clamp arm is configured to pivot toward and away the ultrasonic blade about the pivot axis when the first coupling member and the second coupling member are in the first position.
Coupling devices for surgical instruments and related methods
Coupling devices and related methods are disclosed herein, e.g., for coupling a surgical instrument to a navigation array or other component. The coupling device can reduce or eliminate movement between the instrument and the navigation array, improving navigation precision. The coupling device can be quick and easy to use, reducing or eliminating the need for extra steps or additional tools to attach or detach the instrument from the coupling device. In some embodiments, the single step of inserting an instrument into the coupling device can automatically lock the instrument within the coupling device in a toggle-free manner. The coupling device can include features for consistently attaching instruments thereto at a known or predetermined location and/or orientation.
ANCHORS AND ANCHORING SYSTEMS
Anchors for anchoring soft tissue to bone are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, an anchor can include a non-threaded, asymmetric anchor body having a distal nose and a spine extending proximally from one side of the distal nose, and a deflectable clip extending proximally from a side of the nose opposite the spine. The spine defines a back surface of the anchor body. The spine has an outer bone engaging surface, an inner tissue seating surface opposite the outer bone engaging surface, and opposed lateral sides. The deflectable clip and a portion of the spine defines a guide region configured to accommodate and shield a leading end of a soft tissue to be attached to bone. Soft tissue anchoring systems and methods for inserting an anchor into bone are also provided.
