Methods and systems for assessing and/or quantifying sperm cell subpopulations bearing a specific genetic signature

Technologies for assessing, quantifying and isolating sperm cell populations and/or subpopulations having specific genetic signatures are provided, as well as methods and systems to assess the efficacy of chromosomal differentiation processes. Compositions for identification and differentiation of X-chromosomes and Y-chromosomes in DNA are also provided.

METHOD FOR DISCRIMINATING SEX OF YELLOWTAIL GROUP

Disclosed is a method for determining the sex of yellowtails, the method comprising a step of identifying whether an amino acid residue at position 143 in polypeptide encoded by the HSD17B1 gene of yellowtails is a glutamic acid residue or a glycine residue; a nucleic acid molecule or a primer set which is for use in said method; or a kit comprising the same, for determining the sex of yellowtails. The method according to the present invention is useful in that the genetic sex of yellowtails can be accurately determined.

DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATIONS USING NUCLEIC ACID FRAGMENTS

Various embodiments are directed to applications (e.g., classification of biological samples) of the analysis of the count, the fragmentation patterns, and size of cell-free nucleic acids, e.g., plasma DNA and serum DNA, including nucleic acids from pathogens, such as viruses. Embodiments of one application can determine if a subject has a particular condition. For example, a method of present disclosure can determine if a subject has cancer or a tumor, or other pathology. Embodiments of another application can be used to assess the stage of a condition, or the progression of a condition over time. For example, a method of the present disclosure may be used to determine a stage of cancer in a subject, or the progression of cancer in a subject over time (e.g., using samples obtained from a subject at different times).

Methods are disclosed for non-invasively obtaining fetal cells from a pregnant female. The methods include placing an absorbent medium in an interlabial or intravaginal space or adjacent to the perineum at the vaginal opening of the pregnant female, and collecting vaginal fluid comprising cells in the absorbent medium while the absorbent medium is interlabial or intravaginal space or adjacent to the perineum at the vaginal opening. The absorbent medium is removed and cells are isolated from the absorbent medium to obtain the fetal cells. The fetal cells can be, for example, somatic cells, embroyic stem cells, fetal stem cells or trophoblast cells.
