Bacterial strains including B. breve BbIBS01 (DSM 33231), B. breve BbIBS02 (DSM 33232), B. animalis subsp. lactis BIIBS01 (DSM 33233) and L. plantarum LpIBS01 (DSM 33234) are described. Furthermore, compositions are further described comprising a mixture of at least one or more of the aforementioned bacterial strains and, optionally, at least one further bacterial strain, selected from a bacterial strain L. casei DG® (CNCM I-1572) and bacterial strain L. paracasei LPC-S01™ (DSM 26760) and related method for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, disorders or symptoms, in particular functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

A particular Bifidobacterium spp. strain or particular Lactobacillus spp. strain according to the present invention is isolated from excrement of a human or cabbage kimchi, and thus is highly safe and has physiological activities such as an immunity regulatory effect and an inflammation reaction inhibiting effect. LACTOBACILLUS PLANTARUM STRAIN, AND COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTING OR TREATING METABOLIC DISEASES CONTAINING SAME
Provided is a novel Lactobacillus Plantarum strain and a composition for preventing or treating a metabolic disease including the same. A Lactobacillus Plantarum (Accession No. KCTC 14107BP) according to the present invention may inhibit fat accumulation in white adipose tissue, brown adipose tissue, and liver tissue. The Lactobacillus Plantarum strain may exhibit excellent blood glucose improvement effect, and in particular, may reduce a fasting blood glucose level. The Lactobacillus Plantarum strain may effectively ameliorate insulin resistance by improving glucose tolerance and increasing insulin sensitivity. In addition, the Lactobacillus Plantarum strain may regulate a concentration of metabolic hormones in blood. Therefore, the Lactobacillus Plantarum strain may be usefully used to prevent or treat a metabolic disease.

The present invention relates to a Lactobacillus spp. selective prebiotic composition comprising one, or a mixture of two or more, of: xylooligosaccharides, cellobiose and/or gentiooligosaccharides.
