A distal outer section (22) of the catheter (2) comprises an unexpanded state, in which the diameter (D2) of the distal outer section (22) is smaller than the diameter (D1) of a proximal outer section (21) of the catheter (2), in order to facilitate navigation of the catheter through the circulatory system, and a radially expanded state, in order to facilitate aspiration of the one or several clots (C) through the catheter (2). Furthermore, a method for applying such an apparatus is provided.

Surgical clip for laparoscopic procedures

A surgical clip for a clip applier to ligate vessels. The clip contains two opposing legs connected in parallel by an apex to form a U-shape. Each leg has an outer surface with a half-round cross-sectional configuration for minimizing tissue damage by preventing clip scissoring during ligation. Each leg has an inner surface with a flat central surface, two concave grooves on opposing sides of the central surface, and two convex ridges on opposing sides of each groove. As a vessel is ligated, vessel tissue moves into the concave grooves while remaining frictionally engaged by the compressive forces applied by the central surfaces and convex ridges of leg so that the clip does not move on the vessel. The edges of the grooves and the edges of the ridges of each leg are rounded to prevent any cutting of the ligated vessel.

A platform device for material excision or removal from vascular structures for either handheld or stereotactic table use may comprise a work element or elements configured to selectively open and close at least one articulable beak or scoopula configured to penetrate and remove intra-vascular materials or obstructions, or follow a central lumen of another device or over a wire in a longitudinal direction. Flush and vacuum tissue transport mechanisms may be incorporated. A single tube or an inner sheath and an outer sheath which may be co-axially disposed relative to a work element may be configured to actuate a beak or beaks or scoopulas and provisions for simultaneous beak or scoopula closing under rotation may be incorporated.

Route selection assistance system, recording medium on which route selection assistance program is recorded, route selection assistance method, and diagnosis method

A route selection assistance system, a recording medium on which a route selection assistance program is recorded, a route selection assistance method, and a diagnosis method that enable easy selection of a route of a living body lumen for delivering a medical instrument to a site within a living body via the living body lumen. A route selection assistance system includes: a receiving section configured to receive an input of site information specifying a target site; an image obtaining section configured to obtain image information on a living body of a target patient; a route extracting section configured to extract a plurality of routes of a living body lumen; a ranking assigning section configured to assign rankings to the plurality of routes extracted by the route extracting section; and an output section configured to output the plurality of routes extracted and the rankings assigned by the ranking assigning section.

Thrombectomy device and methods of use

The device disclosed herein is used to the remove a thrombus from the vasculature. It includes an aspiration catheter and a thrombus retrieval device that extends through the lumen of the aspiration catheter. An expandable braided assembly extends over a distal region of the retrieval device, and an activation wire extends through the lumen of the retrieval device to attach to and control the expansion of the braided assembly. Applying tension to the activation wire causes the braided assembly to expand to a diameter of the practitioner's choosing. For example, the practitioner may apply a first level of tension to the activation wire to deploy the braided assembly to a first diameter and then later change the diameter by applying a different level of tension. The expanded braided assembly contacts the thrombus and is pulled proximally toward the aspiration catheter to assist in thrombus removal.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR ESTABLISHING RETROGRADE CAROTID ARTERIAL BLOOD FLOW

Interventional procedures on the carotid arteries are performed through a transcervical access while retrograde blood flow is established from the internal carotid artery to a venous or external location. A system for use in accessing and treating a carotid artery includes an arterial access device, a shunt fluidly connected to the arterial access device, and a flow control assembly coupled to the shunt and adapted to regulate blood flow through the shunt between at least a first blood flow state and at least a second blood flow state. The flow control assembly includes one or more components that interact with the blood flow through the shunt.

ENDOVASCULAR DEVICE WITH A TISSUE PIERCING DISTAL PROBE AND ASSOCIATED METHODS

Devices, systems and methods for treating diseases and disorders effecting the cardiovascular system of the human body are disclosed. An exemplary device in accordance with this disclosure comprises a shaft, tip member fixed to the shaft, and a probe extending beyond a distal surface of the tip member. In some useful embodiments, the tip member is relatively atraumatic and the probe is shaped so as to be more likely to produce trauma than the tip member.

Delivery system for micrograft for treating intracranial aneurysms

A system for delivering a vascular implant into a body lumen including a vascular implant having a first engagement portion at a proximal portion and an elongated delivery member having a second engagement portion at a distal portion releasably engageable with the first engagement portion. An elongated member extends through the delivery member wherein in the extended position the elongated member extends into at least a portion of the implant to prevent release of the implant from the delivery member and in the retracted position the elongated member enables release of the implant from the delivery member.
