The invention comprises a fusion implant system for a generally u-shaped bone staple in which the staple is provided on a storage block with the two side legs in an un-splayed position, and an inserter having two triangular shaped pivoting handles has detachable tips that engage the staple on the storage block such that when the handles are aligned one over the other in a congruent position, the tips force the side legs into a splayed configuration at 90° and a sliding block holds the handles in this position to allow the staple to removed from the storage block and tamped using the inserter handles into respective bone.

SOFT TISSUE-HARD TISSUE INTERFACE FIXATION DEVICE
Devices and methods for joining a first and second tissue in a patient are disclosed that include a base with opposed first and second surfaces, and a plurality of recurved tines oriented to a tine axis and extending from the first surface of the base. The base defines four suture holes extending through the first and second surfaces of the base and configured to receive at least one suture passing between the first and second surfaces of the base. The plurality of recurved tines provides unidirectional traction of the first tissue along the tine axis toward the first surface to secure the device to the first tissue. The device is secured to the second tissue at the second surface with the at least one suture secured to at least one anchor secured to the second tissue.

An instrument is an orthopedic drill guide assembly that includes a first arm and a second arm that are retractably connected to the distal end of the instrument's outer housing, where the proximal ends of the arms are retractably connected to the distal end of the outer housing and configured to move in a retractable motion that changes the spacing between the first drill guide sleeve and the second drill guide sleeve, where the proximal end of the outer housing is configured for controlling the retractable motion of the first and second arms.

A unique, universal Zero-Profile Expandable Intervertebral Spacer (ZP-EIS) device for fusion and distraction throughout the entire spine is provided which can be inserted via anterior, anterolateral, lateral, far lateral or posterior surgical approaches dependent on the need and preference. Multiple ZP-EIS embodiments each with unique mechanisms of calibrated expansion are provided. Two of these embodiments incorporate bi-directional fixating transvertebral (BDFT) screws and five other embodiments do not incorporate BDFT screws. A tool for implantation into the intervertebral device and calibrated device expansion is also disclosed.
SURGICAL BENDING INSTRUMENT
An apparatus and a method are provided for a surgical bending instrument for bending surgical implants. The surgical bending instrument comprises a body including a longitudinally extending threaded hole. A shaft comprising a threaded portion is rotatably engaged within the threaded hole. A handle is coupled to a proximal end of the shaft, and a distal extension of the shaft comprises a driver. A distal force applicator comprises the driver centered between a first grip and a second grip. In some embodiments, the distal force applicator is configured to retain a surgical staple, such that the surgical staple may be changed to a distracted configuration suitable for implantation at a bone fixation or fusion site of a patient. In some embodiments, the distal force applicator is configured to bend a bone fusion plate so as to tailor the plate to specific anatomy of the patient's bone.
