SEALING GLASS COMPOSITION AND SOLID OXIDE FUEL CELL USING SAME
The present invention relates to: a glass composition that can be used as sealing material; and a solid oxide fuel cell using same. A sealing glass composition according to the present invention includes 10-35 wt % of SiO.sub.2, 3-35 wt % of B.sub.2O.sub.3, 30-65 wt % of BaO, 0.1-15 wt % of CaO, 0.1-3 wt % of NiO, and 0.1-3 wt % of CuO. Unlike conventional glass compositions as sealing material, the present sealing glass composition is suitable for use in solid oxide fuel cells that operate at medium-low temperatures, and in particular, has the excellent effect of minimizing sealing adhesion strength degradation even after long-term use.

A sealing glass composition according to the present invention includes 10-35 wt % of SiO.sub.2, 3-35 wt % of B.sub.2O.sub.3, 30-65 wt % of BaO, 0.1-15 wt % of CaO, 0.1-3 wt % of NiO, and 0.1-3 wt % of CuO. High-Index Borate Glasses
Glass compositions include boron oxide (B.sub.2O.sub.3), lanthanum oxide (La.sub.2O.sub.3), titania (TiO.sub.2) and niobia (Nb.sub.2O.sub.5) as essential components and may optionally include silica (SiO.sub.2), tungsten oxide (WO.sub.3), zirconia (ZrO.sub.2), yttria (Y.sub.2O.sub.3), bismuth oxide (Bi.sub.2O.sub.3), barium oxide (BaO), TeO.sub.2 and other components. The glasses may be characterized by high refractive index at 587.56 nm at comparably low liquidus temperature.
High-Index Borate Glasses
Glass compositions include boron oxide (B.sub.2O.sub.3), lanthanum oxide (La.sub.2O.sub.3), titania (TiO.sub.2) and niobia (Nb.sub.2O.sub.5) as essential components and may optionally include silica (SiO.sub.2), tungsten oxide (WO.sub.3), zirconia (ZrO.sub.2), yttria (Y.sub.2O.sub.3), bismuth oxide (Bi.sub.2O.sub.3), barium oxide (BaO), TeO.sub.2 and other components. HIGHLY REFRACTIVE GLASS
A glass includes the following components in % by weight: 2-10 wt-% SiO.sub.2, 2-10 wt-% B.sub.2O.sub.3, 40-55 wt-% La.sub.2O.sub.3, 4-11 wt-% Gd.sub.2O.sub.3, 6-14 wt-% Nb.sub.2O.sub.5, 8-18.5 wt-% TiO.sub.2, and 5-11 wt-% ZrO.sub.2. The glass has a refractive index n.sub.d of at least 2.02, a sum of the portions of La.sub.2O.sub.3, Nb.sub.2O.sub.5, TiO.sub.2 and ZrO.sub.2 is at least 76.5% by weight, and a weight ratio of a sum of the portions of La.sub.2O.sub.3, Nb.sub.2O.sub.5 and ZrO.sub.2 to the portion of TiO.sub.2 is at least 3.85:1.

The glass has a refractive index n.sub.d of at least 2.02, a sum of the portions of La.sub.2O.sub.3, Nb.sub.2O.sub.5, TiO.sub.2 and ZrO.sub.2 is at least 76.5% by weight, and a weight ratio of a sum of the portions of La.sub.2O.sub.3, Nb.sub.2O.sub.5 and ZrO.sub.2 to the portion of TiO.sub.2 is at least 3.85:1.

Provided is optical glass containing, in terms of mol % of cations: 10 to 60% of a La.sup.3+ component; more than 0% and up to 75% of a Ga.sup.3+ component; and 5 to 75% of a Nb.sup.5+ component, in which a total amount of the La.sup.3+ component, Ga.sup.3+ component, and Nb.sup.5+ component is 60 to 100%.
