A glass substrate having two opposite surfaces is provided. The two opposite surfaces of the glass substrate is coated with the TiO.sub.2—SiO.sub.2 sol, the SiO.sub.2 sol, and the anatase TiO.sub.2 preform sol by dip-coating, thereby forming a coated glass substrate with a multi-layer optical coating on each of the two opposite surfaces. The multi-layer optical coating comprises a TiO.sub.2—SiO.sub.2 coating, a SiO.sub.2 coating, and an anatase TiO.sub.2 preform coating. The coated glass substrate is subjected to an anneal process. The coated glass substrate is cut, thereby forming the beam splitter with photocatalytic coating.

METHOD FOR PREPARING MICROSTRUCTURE ON SURFACE OF GLASS BY TITANIUM OXIDE NANOPARTICLE-ASSISTED INFRARED NANOSECOND LASER

A method for preparing a microstructure on the surface of glass by titanium oxide nanoparticle-assisted infrared nanosecond laser, including the following steps: (1) dropwise applying a titanium oxide nanoparticle hydrogel onto the surface of a glass sample; (2) pressing another piece of glass on the surface of the hydrogel, so the hydrogel is evenly distributed between the two pieces of glass, and allowing the two pieces of glass to stand horizontally for a period of time to air-dry the hydrogel; (3) separating the two pieces of glass to obtain a glass with a uniform titanium oxide nanoparticle coating; (4) forming a microstructure using an infrared nanosecond laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm; and (5) performing after-treatment, including ultrasonically cleaning the sample with acetone, absolute ethanol and deionized water respectively for 10 min to remove titanium oxide nanoparticles attached to the surface, to obtain a glass sample with the microstructure.

A method for producing a glass-like protective layer on an optionally pre-coated metal or glass substrate. The method comprises: (a) mixing one or more defined silicon compounds with NaOH and KOH, (b) adding water to the mixture obtained in (a) to hydrolyze the silicon compound(s), (c) adding at least one defined compound of formula MY.sub.m,
where M is Pb, Ti, Zr, Al or B, to the hydrolyzed mixture obtained in (b), wherein the molar ratio M/Si is from 0.01/1 to 0.04/1, to obtain a coating sol, (d) applying the coating sol obtained in (c) to the substrate, and (e) thermal densification of the coating sol applied in d) at a temperature of from 300° C. to 500° C. to form the glass-like protective layer.

Surface coating

A process for the preparation of an antimicrobial coating solution is described. The process comprises the steps of: (i) mixing a chelating agent with titanium alkoxide and fluoroacetic acid; and (ii) adding an aqueous solution to the mixture from step (i). The antimicrobial coating described is visible light activated. The coating is applied to surfaces and then heat treated to form a transparent layer on the surface. This is particularly advantageous where the surface is glass.

According to one or more embodiments, a pharmaceutical package may include a glass container and a coating. The glass container may include a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface may be an outer surface of the glass container. The coating may be positioned over at least a portion of the first surface of the glass container. The coating may include one or more polyimide compositions and one or more metal oxide compositions. The one or more polyimide compositions and the one or more metal oxide compositions may be mixed in the coating.
