Interior coatings for glass structures in electronic devices

An electronic device may include electrical components and other components mounted within a housing. The device may have a display on a front face of the device and may have a glass layer that forms part of the housing on a rear face of the device. The glass layer and other glass structures in the electronic device may be provided with coatings. An interior coating on a glass layer may include multiple layers of material such as an adhesion promotion layer, thin-film layers of materials such as silicon, niobium oxide and other metal oxides, and metals to help adjust the appearance of the coating. A metal layer may be formed on top of the coating to serve as an environmental protection layer and opacity enhancement layer. In some configurations, the coating may include four layers.

A coated article includes a substrate, a functional layer over at least a portion of the substrate, and a protective coating over at least a portion of the functional layer, wherein an uppermost layer of the functional layer is a metal oxide layer, and wherein the protective coating comprises a metal nitride layer and a metal oxynitride layer that is disposed between and in contact with at least part of the metal nitride layer and the metal oxide layer of the functional layer.

The invention relates to an almost opaque decorative glass panel comprising a substrate made of a vitreous material bearing a multilayer stack including at least one light-absorbing functional layer and transparent dielectric coatings such that the light-absorbing functional layer is enclosed between dielectric coatings. The light-absorbing functional layer has a geometric thickness comprised between 25 and 140 nm, and an extinction coefficient k of at least 1.8. The multilayer stack in addition comprises at least one attenuating layer placed between the substrate and the light-absorbing functional layer, having a thickness comprised between 1 and 50 nm, having a refractive index n higher than 1 and an extinction coefficient k of at least 0.5. Furthermore, a transparent dielectric coating the optical thickness of which is comprised between 30 and 160 nm, and the refractive index n of which is higher than 1.5, is placed adjacent to the attenuating layer on the side opposite the light-absorbing functional layer. The invention provides a decorative panel offering a pleasant aesthetic effect.

A coated article includes a substrate, a first dielectric layer, a first metallic layer, a second dielectric layer, a second metallic layer, a third dielectric layer, a third metallic layer, a fourth dielectric layer, a fourth metallic layer and a fifth dielectric layer. At least one of the metallic layers is a discontinuous metallic layer having discontinuous metallic regions. An optional primer is positioned over any one of the metallic layers. Optionally a protective layer is provided as the outer most layer over the fifth dielectric layer.

A process for obtaining a substrate provided with a coating, in which the coating includes a pattern with spatial modulation of at least one property of the coating, includes performing a heat treatment, using a laser radiation, of a continuous coating deposited on the substrate. The heat treatment is such that the substrate is irradiated with the laser radiation focused on the coating in the form of at least one laser line, keeping the coating continuous and without melting of the coating, and a relative displacement of the substrate and of the laser line focused on the coating is imposed in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the laser line, while temporally modulating during this relative displacement the power of the laser line as a function of the speed of relative displacement and of the dimensions of the pattern in the direction of relative displacement.

Substrate provided with a stack having thermal properties and a metallic terminal layer

A substrate is coated on one face with a thin-films stack having reflection properties in the infrared and/or in solar radiation including at least one metallic functional layer, based on silver or on a metal alloy containing silver, and at least two antireflection coatings. The coatings each include at least one dielectric layer. The functional layer is positioned between the two antireflection coatings. The stack also includes a terminal layer which is the layer of the stack which is furthest from the face. The terminal layer is a metallic layer consisting of zinc and tin, made of Sn.sub.xZn.sub.y with a ratio of 0.1x/y2.4 and having a physical thickness of between 0.5 nm and 5.0 nm excluding these values, or even between 0.6 nm and 2.7 nm excluding these values.

The invention relates to substrates, in particular to transparent substrates, optionally colored, coated with an infrared-reflecting layer and capable of being used as glazing in buildings or in vehicles. Said coated substrates are made up of the combination of a glass substrate in which the composition has a redox of less than 15%, characterized by infrared reflection RIR.sub.V so that RIR.sub.V1.087*TL.sub.V, wherein TL.sub.V is the light transmission of the glass, and an infrared reflecting layer characterized by light transmission TL.sub.C so that TL.sub.C1.3*TIR.sub.C, wherein TIR.sub.C is the infrared transmission of the layer.
