20230064362 · 2023-03-02 ·

A method for introducing a soft metal into a hard coating during a physical vapor deposition process. The method including steps of providing a substrate; depositing a bonding layer on the substrate; and depositing the hard coating on the bonding layer using vapor deposition wherein the soft metal forms islands in the hard coating.

METHOD AND COMPOSITION OF SCALABLE, INFILTRATION FREE CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE

A ceramic matrix composite has fibers, a ceramic matrix bonded to the fibers, and ceramic particles, distributed throughout the matrix. A method includes mixing a high char ceramic resin precursor with ceramic particles, adding a catalyst to create a mixture, heating the mixture to produce functionalized ceramic particles, and cooling the mixture to produce a resin having functionalized particles.

Described herein are embodiments directed to additive manufacturing (AM), including three-dimensional (3D) printing, of metal nitride ceramics. In some embodiments herein, AM may comprise powder bed fusion (PBF) techniques. Also described herein are metal nitride ceramic components formed by AM techniques and methods for forming metal nitrides capable of being used in AM processes.

Surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool

A surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool is provided, in which at least a cutting edge portion includes a cubic boron nitride sintered body and a coating film formed on a surface of the cubic boron nitride sintered body. The coating film includes an A layer and a B layer. The A layer is formed of columnar crystals each having a particle size of 10 nm or more and 400 nm or less. The B layer is formed of columnar crystals each having a particle size of 5 nm or more and 70 nm or less. The B layer is formed by alternately stacking two or more compound layers having different compositions. The compound layers each have a thickness of 0.5 nm or more and 300 nm or less.

Cermet, method for producing cermet, and cutting tool

A cermet contains hard phase particles containing Ti and a binding phase containing at least one of Ni and Co, and 70% or more (by number) of the hard phase particles have a cored structure containing a core and a peripheral portion around the core. The core is composed mainly of at least one of Ti carbide, Ti nitride, and Ti carbonitride, and the peripheral portion is composed mainly of a Ti composite compound containing Ti and at least one selected from W, Mo, Ta, Nb, and Cr. The core has an average particle size α, the peripheral portion has an average particle size β, and α and β satisfy 1.1≦β/α≦1.7.

Processing of non-oxide ceramics from sol-gel methods

A general procedure applied to a variety of sol-gel precursors and solvent systems for preparing and controlling homogeneous dispersions of very small particles within each other. Fine homogenous dispersions processed at elevated temperatures and controlled atmospheres make a ceramic powder to be consolidated into a component by standard commercial means: sinter, hot press, hot isostatic pressing (HIP), hot/cold extrusion, spark plasma sinter (SPS), etc.

Disclosed is a blade for a turbomachine, comprising an outer shell and an inner core which is at least partially enclosed by the outer shell and has a higher porosity than the outer shell. The outer shell is formed by a ceramic body or a body made of a ceramic matrix composite material, and the inner core is formed by a fiber-reinforced ceramic or a fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite material.

Method and apparatus for producing three-dimensionally shaped object and three-dimensionally shaped object

A method for producing a three-dimensionally shaped object by stacking layers includes forming each layer using a three-dimensional shape composition containing particles, measuring the thickness of the layer, and ejecting onto the layer a liquid binder containing a binding agent capable of binding the particles. For the ejecting, the amount of the liquid binder to be ejected per unit area of the layer when viewed from above is adjusted according to the result of the measuring.

NOVEL SHAPES FOR TANGENTIAL FLOW SEPERATION MULTICHANNEL TUBULAR ELEMENTS INCORPORATING TURBULENCE PROMOTERS, AND METHOD OF FABRICATION

The present invention relates to a tangential flow separator element for separating a fluid medium for treatment into a filtrate and a retentate, said separator element comprising a monolithic rigid porous support (2) of rectilinear structure with a plurality of channels (3) formed therein for passing a flow of the fluid medium for treatment between an inlet (6) and an outlet (7) for the retentate, in order to recover a filtrate from the outside surface (5) of the support.

According to the invention, the monolithic rigid porous support (2) defines obstacles (9) to the flow of the fluid for treatment, which obstacles extend from the inside walls (31) of said channels, are identical in material and porous texture to the support, and present continuity of material and of porous texture with the support, the obstacles (9) generating variations in the flow sections of the channels.
