Hybrid airfoil coatings
The disclosure describes articles and techniques that include an airfoil having a hybrid coating system to provide improved particle impact resistance and improve CMAS attack resistance on the pressure side of the airfoil and improved thermal load protection on the suction side of the airfoil. An example article for a gas turbine engine may include a substrate, and a hybrid environmental barrier coating (EBC) including a relatively dense EBC layer on a first portion of the substrate and a relatively porous EBC layer on a second portion of the substrate, where the first portion of the substrate is different from the second portion of the substrate, and wherein at least a portion of the relatively porous EBC layer overlaps at least a portion of the relatively dense EBC layer in an overlap region.

OXIDATION PROTECTION WITH IMPROVED WATER RESISTANCE FOR COMPOSITES
Systems and methods for forming an oxidation protection system on a composite structure are provided. In various embodiments, the oxidation protection system comprises a boron-glass layer formed on the composite substrate and a silicon-glass layer formed over the boron-glass layer. Each of the boron-glass layer and the silicon-glass layer include a glass former and a glass modifier.
OXIDATION PROTECTION WITH IMPROVED WATER RESISTANCE FOR COMPOSITES
Systems and methods for forming an oxidation protection system on a composite structure are provided. In various embodiments, the oxidation protection system comprises a boron-glass layer formed on the composite substrate and a silicon-glass layer formed over the boron-glass layer. Each of the boron-glass layer and the silicon-glass layer include a glass former and a glass modifier.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A COMPOSITE COMPONENT OF A TIMEPIECE OR OF A JEWELRY PART, AND COMPOSITE COMPONENT OBTAINABLE BY SUCH METHOD
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a composite component of a timepiece or of a jewelry part, the composite component comprising a porous ceramic part and a metallic material filling the pores of said ceramic part, said method comprising the steps of: providing a porous ceramic preform of the component, providing a metallic material, heating the metallic material to a temperature higher than the melting point of the metallic material, filling the pores of the ceramic preform with the molten metallic material, cooling the metallic material and the ceramic preform to obtain a solidified metallic material in the pores of the ceramic preform, and applying finishing treatments to obtain the composite component,
wherein said porous ceramic preform consists essentially of a material selected from the group consisting of Si.sub.3N.sub.4, SiO.sub.2 and mixtures thereof, and said metallic material is selected from the group consisting of gold, platinum, palladium metals and alloys of these metals.
The invention relates also to a composite component of a timepiece or of a jewelry part comprising a porous ceramic part and a metallic material filling the pores of said ceramic part, wherein said porous ceramic part consists essentially of a material selected from the group consisting of Si.sub.3N.sub.4, SO.sub.2 and mixtures thereof, and said metallic material which is selected from the group consisting of gold, platinum, palladium metals and alloys of these metals.

AIRFOIL HAVING ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER TOPCOATS THAT VARY IN COMPOSITION BY LOCATION
An airfoil includes an airfoil wall that defines a leading end, a trailing end, and suction and pressure sides that join the leading end and the trailing end. The airfoil wall is formed of a silicon-containing ceramic. A first environmental barrier topcoat is disposed on the suction side of the airfoil wall, and a second, different environmental barrier topcoat is disposed on the pressure side of the airfoil wall. The first topcoat is vaporization-resistant and the second topcoat is resistant to calcium-magnesium-aluminosilicate.
AIRFOIL HAVING ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER TOPCOATS THAT VARY IN COMPOSITION BY LOCATION
An airfoil includes an airfoil wall that defines a leading end, a trailing end, and suction and pressure sides that join the leading end and the trailing end. A method for manufacturing an environmental barrier comprising the steps of coating a rare earth silicate powder with a precursor of a densification agent in order to form a rare earth silicate powder coated with the precursor of the densification agent, thermally spraying the coated powder onto a substrate in order to obtain an at least partially amorphous environmental barrier on the substrate and thermally treating the environmental barrier in order to crystallize and densify the environmental barrier.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING AN ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER
A method for manufacturing an environmental barrier comprising the steps of coating a rare earth silicate powder with a precursor of a densification agent in order to form a rare earth silicate powder coated with the precursor of the densification agent, thermally spraying the coated powder onto a substrate in order to obtain an at least partially amorphous environmental barrier on the substrate and thermally treating the environmental barrier in order to crystallize and densify the environmental barrier.
