Mechanical ceramic matrix composite (CMS) repair
Various embodiments include a metal-repaired ceramic matrix composite (CMC) article, and a method of repairing a CMC article having a defect. Particular embodiments include a method including: removing a defect-containing portion of the CMC article; forming at least one opening in a remaining portion of the CMC article; preparing a metal repair preform for replacing at least the removed portion of the CMC article, wherein a portion of the metal repair preform complements the at least one opening; and attaching the metal repair preform to the remaining portion of the CMC article.
CERAMIC STRUCTURAL BODY
A ceramic structural body includes a substrate that is composed of a ceramic(s), a hole that is opened on a surface of the substrate, and a seal material that is positioned at an opening portion of the hole.
Metal-on-ceramic substrates
A metal-on-ceramic substrate comprises a ceramic layer, a first metal layer, and a bonding layer joining the ceramic layer to the first metal layer. The bonding layer includes thermoplastic polyimide adhesive that contains thermally conductive particles. This permits the substrate to withstand most common die attach operations, reduces residual stress in the substrate, and simplifies manufacturing processes.
Intermediate member
An intermediate member is a member which is directly or indirectly sandwiched between a first object and a second object. The intermediate member includes a plate-like supporting member having a lower surface which is one main surface opposed to the first object and a plurality of ceramic blocks fixed on an upper surface which is the other main surface of the supporting member in a state of being separated from one another. Thus, in a state where the plurality of ceramic blocks are collectively held by the supporting member having relatively high shape retention, by disposing the intermediate member between the objects, it is possible to easily arrange the plurality of ceramic blocks between the objects with high positioning accuracy.
REPAIR AND/OR REINFORCEMENT OF OXIDE-OXIDE CMC
In some examples, techniques of repairing and/or reinforcing oxide-oxide ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials using a metallic material. In one example, a method including applying a metallic material at an edge of an oxide-oxide CMC substrate; and heating the metallic material to diffuse the metal material into the oxide-oxide CMC substrate at the edge. In another example, a method including applying a metallic material onto a damaged area of the oxide-oxide CMC; applying a reinforcing phase material onto the damaged area of the oxide-oxide CMC; and heating the metallic material to diffuse the metallic material into the oxide-oxide CMC and attach the reinforcing phase material to the damaged area of the oxide-oxide CMC.
Metal-ceramic base material, metal-ceramic joint structure, method for producing metal-ceramic joint structure, and mixed powder material
The present invention provides a metal-ceramic base material and the like which allow a ceramic base material and a desired metal material to be easily joined. A metal-ceramic base material (30) to be joined to a metal material (40), includes: a ceramic base material (20); and a metal film (25) provided on the ceramic base material (20), the metal film (25) being formed by thermal spray of a mixed powder material containing aluminum, alumina, and nickel, at least part of the nickel being exposed on a surface of the metal film (25).
GROUP-III NITRIDE LAMINATE
There is provided a group III nitride laminate, including: a substrate comprised of silicon carbide; a first layer comprised of aluminum nitride and formed on the substrate; a second layer comprised of gallium nitride and formed on the first layer; and a third layer formed on the second layer and comprised of group III nitride having an electron affinity lower than that of the gallium nitride which is comprised in the second layer, the second layer having a thickness of less than 500 nm, the second layer containing iron at a concentration of less than 1-10.sup.17/cm.sup.3, and the second layer containing carbon at a concentration of less than 110.sup.17/cm.sup.3.
Cutting insert, cutting tool comprising such an insert and methods for producing and repairing such a tool
The invention relates to an insert brazed on a body of cutting tools (101), consisting of: a metal substrate (11), in the form of plates, having a surface for attachment to the tool body; a high-temperature, brazing, alloy layer (12); an intermediate layer; and a ceramic plate (14). The brazing alloy layer connects the metal substrate (11) of the ceramic plate (14) via the metal layer (13). A low-temperature brazing layer (1) connects the insert (1, 1) to the body of the tool (101).
Conductive honeycomb structure
A conductive honeycomb structure, comprising: a columnar ceramic honeycomb structure portion comprising an outer peripheral side wall and partition walls each disposed inside the outer peripheral side wall and defining a plurality of cells penetrating from one bottom surface to another bottom surface to form flow paths; a pair of electrode layers disposed on an outer surface of the outer peripheral side wall across a central axis of the honeycomb structure portion; and a pair of metal terminals joined to the respective electrode layers via one or more welded portions, wherein each of the one or more welded portions comprises a welded area of from 2 to 50 mm.sup.2.
OPEN VESSELS AND THEIR USE
Vessels selected from crucibles, pans, open cups and saggars essentially comprising of two components, from which (A) one component being a ceramic matrix composite, and (B) the second component being from metal or alloy, and wherein component (A) is the inner one.
