In an aspect, a device includes a body structure including a core and a sleeve disposed around at least a portion of the core, the core defining a channel through the core extending from a first end of the core to a second end of the core, the sleeve including a flange adjacent the second end of the core; and a deployable portion coupled to the body structure adjacent the first end of the core, the deployable portion having a wired structure transitionable between a retained configuration and a deployed configuration, wherein a top portion of the wired structure extends beyond the first end of the core in a longitudinal direction when the wired structure is in the retained configuration, and wherein first end of the core extends beyond the top portion of the wired structure when the wired structure is in the deployed configuration.

Multi-shield spinal access system

An access device for accessing an intervertebral disc having an outer shield comprising an access shield with a larger diameter (˜16-30 mm) that reaches from the skin down to the facet line, with an inner shield having a second smaller diameter (˜5-12 mm) extending past the access shield and reaches down to the disc level. This combines the benefits of the direct visual microsurgical/mini open approaches and the percutaneous, “ultra-MIS” techniques.

Medical retractor device

A medical treatment implement which has an excellent degree of freedom of a procedure and into which a trocar can be re-stuck includes a tubular retractor main body configured to be indwelled in an incision wound and a converter (20) configured to close an opening end portion of an upper end of the retractor main body and to be puncturable with a trocar. The converter (20) includes a ring-shaped frame portion (22) detachably mounted on the opening end portion and a sheet portion (21) which is mounted inside the frame portion (22) and airtightly covers the opening end portion. A compression force P is applied to the sheet portion (21) in an inner diameter direction.

A cannula may include a tubular section having a distal end, a proximal end, and forming a passage, and an elastomeric membrane coupled to and encircling the tubular section. The cannula may also include a valve that is movable between an open condition and a closed condition to selectively provide access to the passage defined by the tubular section. When the tubular section is inserted into an eye during an ophthalmic surgery, a concave surface of the elastomeric membrane acts as a suction cup to retain the cannula device onto a surface of an eye.

An adapter assembly includes a sleeve, a trocar assembly releasably securable within the sleeve, and a retaining mechanism configured to releasably secure the trocar assembly within the sleeve. The retaining mechanism includes a retaining block, a cam wire moveably positioned relative to the retaining block between a lock position and a release position, a retaining block extension for maintaining the cam wire relative to the retaining block, a button member in operable engagement with the cam wire, and a pair of retaining members. The button member includes a center beam moveable from an unflexed position in engagement with a stop tab of the retaining block extension to prevent movement of the button member to a flexed position out of alignment with the stop tab to permit movement of the button member.
