A suture needle container includes a receptacle having a proximal end with an opening and a closed distal end. A hollow mandrel is disposed inside the receptacle. The mandrel projects from the closed distal end toward the opening at the proximal end of the receptacle. The mandrel includes a tubular wall having a proximal end aligned with the proximal end of the receptacle and a distal end connected with the closed distal end of the receptacle. An elongated slot is formed in the tubular wall. A suture needle is disposed within the elongated slot. A suture is secured to the proximal end of the suture needle and wrapped around the hollow mandrel. A cover closes the opening at the proximal end of the receptacle for sealing the suture needle and the suture inside the receptacle for maintaining a sterile environment inside the receptacle.

CUTTING GUARD

A tissue guard includes a body having a first section and a second section each defining an open proximal end, an open distal end, and a lumen extending therethrough. The distal end of the first section includes a plurality of resilient fingers operably coupled thereto, each of the plurality of resilient fingers including a flange biased towards the distal end of the first section. The second section includes a corresponding plurality of holes defined therein in annular row-like spatial registration with the plurality of resilient fingers. The distal end of the second section is configured to be telescopically received within the proximal end of the first section such that mechanical engagement of the plurality of fingers with a corresponding row of annular holes locks the first section relative to the second section to incrementally adjust the height of the body.

A tissue guard for insertion within an access device disposed within an operating cavity includes a base section defining open proximal and distal ends and a lumen extending therethrough between the open proximal end and the open distal end. The base section includes one or more openings in a side thereof in fluid communication with the lumen. The proximal end of the base section includes an evacuation ring in fluid communication with the lumen. A tissue cuff is configured to encapsulate the base section and is selectively moveable between a distal position for facilitating insertion of the tissue guard within an access device disposed within a tissue opening in an operating cavity and a proximal position wherein the tissue cuff encloses the one or more openings to form an evacuation channel between the one or more openings and the evacuation ring to facilitate fluid evacuation from the operating cavity.

The first medical device includes an elongate member having a lumen. The second medical device includes a needle advanceable through the lumen. The RLC circuit includes an excitation voltage source, a resistor, a capacitor, an inductor, and an output voltage sensor. The inductor includes a coil that is supported by the first medical device and wound around the lumen. As the needle is advanced through the lumen, an output voltage of the RLC circuit is an indicator of a longitudinal position of the needle with respect to the elongate member. The voltage sensor is configured to sense the output voltage, and the processor and output device are configured to generate an output that is an indicator of the longitudinal position of the needle.

Penetrator assemblies operable to provide access to an intraosseous space are disclosed. The penetrator assembly may include a flexible outer penetrator having a longitudinal bore and a distal end operable to penetrate bone and associated bone marrow. The penetrator assembly may also include a rigid inner penetrator including a distal end operable to penetrate bone and associated bone marrow. A hub having a distal end is connected to a proximal end of the flexible outer penetrator. A connector having a distal end is connected to a proximal end of the rigid inner penetrator. A proximal end of the connector can releasably engage a driver. The longitudinal bore of the flexible outer penetrator can removably receive the rigid inner penetrator to prevent or minimize the flexible outer penetrator from bending during an insertion procedure. The flexible outer penetrator can bend after removal of the rigid inner penetrator from the longitudinal bore.

Therefore, embodiments can be utilized in emergency situations that require fast responses, performed in ERs, moving vehicles, ambulances, and battlefields.

Powered drivers, intraosseous devices and methods to access bone marrow

A method for penetrating bone and accessing bone marrow is provided. The method may include inserting a penetrator assembly with a powered drill to penetrate the bone into the bone marrow. The penetrator assembly may include a trocar having a stylet. The penetrator assembly may also include an outer penetrator having a hollow cannula and a luer lock attachment. The powered drill may include a housing enclosing a motor and a power supply and associated circuitry. The powered drill may also include a connector receptacle for receiving a penetrator assembly connector of the penetrator assembly. The connector receptacle may releasably lock the penetrator assembly connector into place with the powered drill. The power supply may include a rechargeable battery within the housing for supplying power to the motor. A battery indicator may be provided to indicate a level of the battery.

The lock further includes a rotary stop integral with the spacer for fixing the rotational position of the first medical device with respect to the second medical device. The lock further includes a clip integral with the spacer and removably securable to the first medical device in a first position to secure the spacer in the unlock position, and removably securable to the first medical device in a second position to secure the spacer in the lock position.
