Ultrasonic surgical instrument clamp arm with snap-on clamp pad
An apparatus for operating on tissue includes a body, a shaft assembly, and an end effector. The shaft assembly extends distally from the body and includes an acoustic waveguide. The waveguide is configured to acoustically couple with an ultrasonic transducer. The end effector includes an ultrasonic blade, a clamp arm, and a clamp pad. The blade is in acoustic communication with the waveguide. The clamp arm is configured to pivot about a first pivot point toward and away from the ultrasonic blade and includes a coupling feature. The clamp pad is selectively attachable to the blade to acoustically isolate the clamp arm from the ultrasonic blade. The coupling feature of the clamp arm is configured to provide a snap fit between the clamp pad and the clamp arm and thereby permit manipulation of the clamp pad for removal of the clamp pad from the clamp arm.
Surgical forceps having a cutting edge
A surgical forceps includes an end effector assembly including a first jaw member and a second jaw member pivotally engaged with one another. At least one of the first or second jaw member is pivotable between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position. The first jaw member includes first and second surfaces on opposite sides thereof. The first surface is disposed in opposition to the second jaw member. The second surface includes a cutting edge disposed on a proximal portion thereof. The second jaw member includes a proximal flange having first and second raised sidewalls defining a proximal channel therebetween. The proximal channel receives the cutting edge of the first jaw member when the first and second jaw members are in the approximated position. The cutting edge of the first jaw member is exposed when the first and second jaw members are in the spaced apart position.
System for Use in Sealing a Portion of Pleural Layers Together
A system for use in sealing a portion of pleural layers together includes an electrical energy source, and an electrocautery probe electrically coupled to the electrical energy source. The electrocautery probe has a cannula shaft portion, a distal penetrating tip, and an intermediate portion interposed between the cannula shaft portion and distal penetrating tip. The electrocautery probe is configured to generate heat. A protein source is coupled to the intermediate portion of the electrocautery probe, wherein the protein source has a protein that is denatured by heat.
METHODS FOR OPEN DISSECTION USING SEALING INSTRUMENT
An electrosurgical system includes jaw members having a cutting element extending therebetween and a generator configured to: provide minimal power to the cutting element to maintain a pre-dissection temperature thereof; sense a change in resistance of the cutting element and ramp up power to a dissection temperature; regulate the temperature of the cutting element by regulating power; and terminate power to the cutting element to allow the cutting element to cool to the pre-dissection temperature before providing power back to the cutting element.
SURGICAL ARM SYSTEM WITH INTERNALLY DRIVE GEAR ASSEMBLIES
Example embodiments relate to robotic arm assemblies. Embodiments of the robotic arm assembly include a shoulder segment and upper arm segment having a motor drive portion. Embodiments also include a shoulder coupling joint assembly connecting the upper arm segment to the shoulder segment. Shoulder coupling joint assembly includes a distal shoulder joint subassembly connected to the upper arm segment. The distal shoulder joint subassembly includes a distal shoulder joint forming a first axis. The distal shoulder joint subassembly includes a shoulder planetary gear assembly. Embodiments include an elbow coupling joint assembly connecting the upper arm segment to the forearm segment. The elbow coupling joint assembly includes a proximal elbow joint subassembly connected to the upper arm segment. The proximal elbow joint subassembly includes a proximal elbow joint forming a second axis. The proximal elbow joint subassembly includes an elbow planetary gear assembly.
Spectrometric analysis
A method of spectrometric analysis comprises obtaining one or more sample spectra for an aerosol, smoke or vapour sample. The one or more sample spectra are subjected to pre-processing and then multivariate and/or library based analysis so as to classify the aerosol, smoke or vapour sample. The results of the analysis are used for various surgical or non-surgical applications.
Forceps with tissue stops
Forceps that include a hand piece, a jaw assembly connected to the hand piece, and a web. The jaw assembly is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The web is adapted to block an anatomical feature from extending beyond a proximal end of a gripping section of the jaw assembly. The web remains generally stationary relative to the handpiece when the jaw assembly is moved between an open position and a closed position.
Electrosurgical forceps
An electrosurgical forceps includes a pair of first and second shaft members pivotably coupled to one another, an end effector assembly coupled to the pair of first and second shaft members, a knife, and a knife deployment mechanism. The knife deployment mechanism has one or more safety features that resist an inadvertent deployment of the knife.
ELECTROSURGICAL GENERATOR
An electrosurgical generator comprising two HF generator units, two output transformers, and at least four output terminals for connecting electrosurgical instruments. Together with the associated output transformer and corresponding output terminals, each HF generator unit forms an HF generator module. The electrosurgical generator comprises a control unit connected to two HF generator modules and configured to provide the following operating modes: parallel mode in which two output transformers are connected in parallel so that an electrosurgical instrument can be operated with higher output current, series mode in which two output transformers are connected in series so that, via the output terminals, an electrosurgical instrument can be operated with higher output voltage, and multi-instrument mode in which output transformers are each connected independently to pair of output terminals for respectively one electrosurgical instrument in which output terminal of generator module is electrically connected to output terminal of respective other generator module.
ELECTROSURGICAL DEVICE
