A surgical tray system is disclosed. The system includes a tray for use in an operating room environment. In various embodiments, the tray includes an indentation having a bowl shape. A vacuum sealed bag is fitted over the tray and form fitted to the tray when the air is removed from within the bag. The tray optionally includes an light source for illuminating an area under the tray, a magnification element, and pouches for storing items used during a surgical procedure. The tray is optionally substantially transparent to allow light to pass through the tray. The tray is ideally positioned over a patient bed. It may be mounted via an arm to a bed frame member, a monitor station, or a ceiling fixture.

The surgical item counting station comprises a top plate having a diameter forming a table top surface and being adjacent and perpendicular to a display screen mounted on an adjustable column mounted on a base terminating at feet. The display screen is adapted to receive and display information about at least one item and general communications. A shelf having a substantially equal diameter to the top plate and being located below and in parallel to the top plate is provided. The shelf includes shelf side walls with a mounting means adapted for mounting at least one container device below the top plate. Preferably the container device is a sponge count bag. Preferably the shelf is a rotational shelf while the top plate or table top is non-rotational.

The upper unit includes a first elongated strap with a clip and second elongated strap without a clip, a cover on top of the upper unit with a handle sewn into the cover, and a zipper around a bottom of the cover. The lower unit includes a connecting strap and a third elongated strap with a receptacle for the clip on the first elongated strap from the upper unit, where the zipper is on the top of the lower unit, and where the connecting strap and second elongated strap are sewn into the lower unit and the upper unit.

The packaging system includes a casing with a distal section defining a cavity configured to receive the working portion, and a proximal section removably coupled to the distal section and being configured to receive the shank of the tool. A sleeve is retained by the distal section and is disposed within the cavity of the distal section. The sleeve defines a lumen adapted to receive the working portion. The sleeve is configured to rotate within the distal section to facilitate rotational installation of the tool relative to a surgical device.

A disposable applicator and disposable tray for handling, drying, and separately organizing medical supplies during a medical procedure are provided. The disposable applicator can be used for drying medical supplies. The disposable tray provides two spaced apart recesses for organizing and separating pre-use and post-use medical supplies for preventing cross contamination. The post-use medical supplies, disposable applicator, and the disposable tray can be discarded after the related medical procedure to further prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses.

A method of operating a surgical assembly is disclosed. Packaging systems and methods for mounting a tool on a surgical device

A packaging system for an elongate tool to be coupled to a surgical device. A segmented packaging body comprises a first distal section, a second distal section, and a proximal section. The first and second distal sections provide a clamshell casing to the distal end of the tool, and the proximal section is pivotally coupled to the first distal section and configured to receive the proximal end of the tool. The packaging body may comprise a living hinge and perforations to facilitate mounting the tool on the surgical device without the user touching the tool, thereby minimizing risk of contamination and/or injury. The proximal section may be detached from the clamshell casing at the perforations after the tool is mounted on the surgical device. Secondary packaging may be provided to receive the packaging body. Methods for mounting the tool disposed within the packaging system are also disclosed.
