The present disclosure relates to improving insulation properties of foams by employing an azeotropically-modified blowing agent that preserves or improves R-value at various temperatures such as lower than ambient temperatures (below 24° C.). The present disclosure also provides foams with improved long-term thermal resistance (LTTR).

Reactive amine catalysts for polyurethane applications

Tertiary amine catalysts having isocyanate reactive groups that are capable of forming thermally stable covalent bonds able to withstand temperatures up to 120° C. are disclosed. These catalyst can be used to produce polyurethane foam having the following desirable characteristics: a) very low chemical emissions over a wide range of environmental conditions and isocyanate indexes (e.g., indexes as low as 65 but higher than 60) while meeting all physical property requirements; b) sufficient hydrolytic stability to maintain the catalyst covalently bound to foam without leaching of tertiary amine catalyst when foam is exposed to water or aqueous solutions even at temperatures higher than ambient (temperature range 25° C. to 90° C.); and c) stable contact interface between the polyurethane polymer and other polymers (for example polycarbonate) with minimal migration of tertiary amine catalyst from polyurethane polymer to other polymers yielding no noticeable polymer deterioration at the point of contact even under conditions of heat and humidity.

The present invention relates to blowing agent compositions comprising at least one hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) selected from cis- and/or trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (HFO-1234ze) and at least one hydrochlorofluoroolefin (HCFO) selected from cis- and/or trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (HCFO-1233zd) used in the preparation of foamable thermoplastic compositions. The blowing agent compositions are useful in the production of low density insulating foams with improved k-factor.

Expanded Pellets and Method for Manufacturing Molded Components Using Them

The invention refers to a method for producing expanded polymer pellets, which comprises the following steps: melting a polymer comprising a polyamide; adding at least one blowing agent; expanding the melt through at least one die for producing an expanded polymer; and pelletizing the expanded polymer. The invention further concerns polymer pellets produced with the method as well as their use, e.g. for the production of cushioning elements for sports apparel, such as for producing soles or parts of soles of sports shoes. A further aspect of the invention concerns a method for the manufacture of molded components, comprising loading pellets of an expanded to polymer material into a mold, and connecting the pellets by providing heat energy, wherein the expanded polymer material of the pellets or beads comprises a chain extender. The molded components may be used in broad ranges of application.
