Functionalized Carbon Black, Preparation Thereof and Use in Vulcanizable Rubber Compositions
The present disclosure provides a functionalized carbon black obtained by treating an oxidized carbon black with a sulfur-containing primary or secondary amine or a salt thereof. The disclosure also relates to a process for preparing such functionalized carbon black. Furthermore, the present disclosure relates a vulcanizable rubber composition including (i) a vulcanizable rubber component, and (ii) an oxidized carbon black and (iii) a sulfur-containing primary or secondary amine or a salt thereof, or a functionalized carbon black formed from these components. The disclosure also concerns an article made from the vulcanizable rubber composition. The functionalized carbon blacks disclosed herein are particularly useful for obtaining rubber compounds with low hysteresis and enhanced abrasion resistance, e.g. for the production of energy-saving tires.
Infrared fluorescent coatings
The present invention provides for a composition comprising a pigment, wherein the composition is suitable for coating a surface that is, or is expected to be, exposed to the sun. The pigment comprises particles that fluoresce in sunlight, thereby remaining cooler in the sun than coatings pigmented with non-fluorescent particles. The particles comprise solids that fluoresce or glow in the visible or near infrared (NIR) spectra, or that fluoresce when doped. Suitable dopants include, but are not limited to, ions of rare earths and transition metals. A coating composition includes: (i) a film-forming resin; (ii) an infrared reflective pigment; and (iii) an infrared fluorescent pigment different from the infrared reflective pigment. When the coating composition is cured to form a coating and exposed to radiation comprising fluorescence-exciting radiation, the coating has a greater effective solar reflectance (ESR) compared to the same coating exposed to the radiation comprising fluorescence-exciting radiation except without the infrared fluorescent pigment. A multi-layer coating including the coating composition, and a substrate at least partially coated with the coating composition is also disclosed. A method of reducing temperature of an article includes applying the coating composition to at least a portion of the article.
DEGRADABLE POLYMER COMPOSITION AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURING AND USING IN DOWNHOLE TOOLS
A chemical composition for a degradable polymeric material includes an isocyanate terminated prepolymer, including prepolymer units as a main chain with a plurality of isocynanates at ends of the main chain, a catalyst additive, and a cross-linking agent. The isocyanate terminated prepolymer can be an isocyanate terminated polyester, polycarbonate or polyether prepolymer. The isocyanate terminated prepolymer has a structural formula as follows:
ONC—R″—NH—[—CO—R—CO—O—R′—O—]n—NH—R″—CNO
wherein R, R′ and R″ are an aryl group or alkyl group and wherein n is a number of prepolymer units corresponding to length of the main chain. The composition degrades at a rate and at a delay for failure between 8-72 hours. The composition is a dissolvable rubber material with a modulus and elongation suitable for a component of a downhole tool.
In situ expandable tubulars
Expandable tube members that are fabricated from a composite material that includes a structural plastic, which structural plastic includes phase change materials that undergo a permanent expansion upon exposure to wellbore conditions. This permanent expansion of the structural plastic causes the expandable tube member to expand radially and/or longitudinally without the use of an expansion tool. The expandable tube member can be used to control fluid loss, patch wells, stabilize a formation in a wellbore, enhance flow, provide sand screening, and repair damaged pipes, casings, or liners.
