Compositions useful in preparing plastics and paints
11180635 · 2021-11-23 · ·

Compositions of matter that are useful in the preparation of plastics and paints. These compositions contain a large number of silanol groups bonded to the silicon atoms that provide water solubility and/or disperseability of such materials in aqueous solutions. In addition, these compositions contain organofunctional groups that are antimicrobial in nature. These compositions, when coupled with plastics and paints, provide antimicrobial properties to such plastics and paints as well as adhesion properties.

THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTING

Method and system for thermal transfer printing are disclosed. The system comprises a transfer member having an imaging surface on the front side, a coating station at which a monolayer of particles made of, or coated with, a thermoplastic polymer is applied to the imaging surface, an imaging station at which electromagnetic radiation (EM) is applied via the rear side of the transfer member to selected regions of the particles-coated imaging surface to render the particles thereon tacky within the selected regions, and a transfer station at which only the regions of the particles coating that have been rendered tacky are transferred to a substrate. The transfer member includes on its rear side a body transparent to EM radiation and on its front side an EM radiation absorbing layer, the imaging surface being formed on, or as part of, the absorbing layer.

ARTICLE WITH VISUAL EFFECTS

A blow molded article, a method of making a blow molded article and a method of making a preform each having at least one layer comprising a thermoplastic resin and between 0.1% and 20% of an additive having a viscosity of greater than 1,000,000 cst. There is a refractive index difference of at least 0.04 between the additive and the thermoplastic resin. The high viscosity of the additive ensures even distribution of the additive within the thermoplastic resin in discrete domains, while additionally providing for a complex end look balancing opacity, gloss and depth.
