Far Red and Near Infrared Light-Mediated Conditioning of Tissues and/or Blood to Prevent Reperfusion Injury in Endovascular Therapies
Reperfusion injury is limited during endovascular therapies (e.g., revascularization and/or reperfusion of end organ tissues) by conditioning the tissues against reperfusion injury using an optical fiber catheter to deliver far red and near infrared (R/NIR) light to the tissues. The light may be multiple wavelength or single wavelength light, and may have one or more wavelengths selected from the range of 510 to 830 nm. The R/NIR light may be delivered concurrently with the endovascular therapy, or in other instances may be delivered before or after a particular therapy.
THERMOSENSITIVE BIO-ADHESIVE HYDROGEL FOR REMOVAL OF URETERAL AND RENAL STONES
Provided herein are methods for treating nephrolithiasis and protecting the urothelium and inner lining of the kidney from thermal damage during lithotripsy by use of a thermosensitive bio-adhesive hydrogel. The described method dramatically improved the efficiency and effectiveness of stone clearance compared to conventional techniques while providing protection to the urothelium from potentially damaging temperature spikes.
Coupling device for connecting an optical waveguide to an associated optical waveguide connection
A coupling device for an optical waveguide includes an optical waveguide connection for a first optical waveguide. The coupling device includes an optical filter arranged in a beam path between a laser light source and the optical waveguide connection which reflects light of a first wavelength range or a first polarization direction and transmits light of a second wavelength range or a second polarization direction.
PROTECTING NON-TARGET TISSUE DURING ABLATION PROCEDURES AND RELATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Systems and methods for protecting non-target tissue from damage during a medical procedure for disrupting target tissue via heat application are disclosed. Data associated with the target tissue to be disrupted may be received. Based on the received data, one or more non-target objects of tissue that may be affected by the applied heat are identified. Both a temperature threshold and thermal dose threshold for each of the one or more non-target objects may be generated. Both the temperature and the thermal dose of each of the one or more non-target objects may be evaluated during performance of the medical procedure. A response may be generated when either the evaluated temperature of any of the one or more non-targe objects reaches the corresponding temperature threshold or the thermal dose of any of the one or more non-target objects reaches the corresponding thermal dose threshold.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR APPLYING LIGHT IN OCULAR AND PERIOCULAR AREAS
A removable tip for a light energy handpiece comprises a hollow conduit configured to surround a light guide in the handpiece; a support extension having a length longer than a length of the hollow conduit; and a shielding extension coupled to the support extension at an angle less than 180 degrees and located in front of the hollow conduit. The shielding extension is configured to be inserted behind an eyelid and extend to the fornix, the shielding extension comprised of a thermally insulative material.
APPLICATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION TO THE HUMAN IRIS
Rather than rely solely upon pupillary occlusion or tracking of eye movement to protect the fundus from accidental exposure to electromagnetic radiation, the present invention also utilizes an electromagnetic radiation pathway with a profile such that the energy density at the iris is greater than the energy density at the posterior portion of the eye. This disparity in energy density allows for efficacy at the anterior iris treatment site, without injury to the fundus.
SURGICAL DEVICE, LASER SURGERY SYSTEM, AND METHODS OF OPERATION THEREOF
Surgical devices and methods of operation thereof are provided herein. The surgical devices include interior walls defining a cavity that extends along a first axis and having an aperture at a first end of the surgical devices. The surgical devices include a backstop spaced apart from the aperture and having a surface opposing the aperture. The surgical devices include an arm that extends from the surgical device. The surgical devices are configured to receive a fiber waveguide into the cavity at a second end. The surgical devices of some embodiments include a surface for reflecting laser light from the fiber waveguide.
Device for controlling and limiting thermal injury to tissue during thermal procedures where tissue is simultaneously mechanically deformed
The illustrated embodiments include an apparatus to reduce or eliminate full thickness injury in tissue and to deform tissue which includes a probe or mechanism for deforming tissue, and a subsystem for selectively cooling and/or heating tissue while deformation is of the tissue is being performed. The illustrated embodiments of the invention also extend to a method to reduce or eliminate full thickness injury in tissue and to deform tissue including the steps of deforming tissue, and selectively cooling and/or heating tissue while deformation of the tissue is being performed.
Conditioning a laser-tissue contact surface
A nozzle device (1) comprises a plurality of multi-fluid nozzles (5) and a body (2) with a bore (8). The bore (8) has a laser entrance (82) and a laser exit (81). The nozzle device (1) is adapted to be mounted to a laser medical device such that a laser beam generated by the laser medical device enters the laser entrance (82) of the bore (8) of the body (2) and exits the laser exit (81) of the bore (8) of the body (2). The body (2) houses the multi-fluid nozzles (5) and the multi-fluid nozzles (5) are arranged around the laser exit (81) of the bore (8) of the body (2). The nozzle device (1) allows to conditioning a tissue at and near where it is cut or drilled by the laser beam of the laser medical device. Thus, the nozzle device (1) is particularly suitable for a laser osteotomic device allowing to minimize collateral damages of the tissue when being cut or drilled.
