Devices, systems and methods for natural feature tracking of surgical tools and other objects
Systems, methods and devices for use in tracking are described, using optical modalities to detect spatial attributes or natural features of objects, such as, tools and patient anatomy. Spatial attributes or natural features may be known or may be detected by the tracking system. The system, methods and devices can further be used to verify a calibration of a tool either by a computing unit or by a user. Further, the disclosure relates to detection of spatial attributes, including depth information, of the anatomy for purposes of registration or to create a 3D surface profile of the anatomy.
CONCENTRIC CORE PUNCTURE LOCATING SYSTEM
Disclosed are a puncture sealing device and methods of locating a puncture site within a vessel. The systems can include elongated dilators and access sheaths that are configured to locate the puncture site within a vessel so that the position of the puncture site relative to a distal end of the access sheath is known during a puncture sealing procedure.
DISTANCE MEASURING METHOD AND DEVICE AS WELL AS LASER LITHOTRIPSY DEVICE
A measuring method for optically determining a distance (z) of a surface located in a medium from an end of an optical waveguide is described and has the following steps: emitting electromagnetic measuring radiation of a first wavelength (λ1) and of a second wavelength (λ2) from the end of the waveguide towards the surface, wherein the medium more strongly absorbs the electromagnetic measuring radiation of the second wavelength (λ2) than the electromagnetic measuring radiation of the first wavelength (λ1); measuring a first reflection signal (I.sub.1) of the electromagnetic measuring radiation of the first wavelength (λ1) reflected from the surface, and measuring a second reflection signal (I.sub.2) of the electromagnetic measuring radiation of the second wavelength (λ2) reflected from the surface, and determining the distance (z) from a ratio (I.sub.2:I.sub.1) of the second and the first reflection signal. Furthermore, a measuring device and a laser lithotripsy device are described.
Surgical device
Provided is a spacer device for assisting a surgeon during knee surgery on a patient, the spacer device having a housing and a support portion. The housing includes a lateral member having an outer surface and an inner surface and a pair of side members that comprise respective, internal, opposed side walls. The support portion includes a first end portion disposed between the side walls of the housing and including a first pair of lateral projections and a second end portion. The support portion is further adapted for axial slidable movement relative to the housing so as to define a first space and a second space between a first pair of lateral projections and respective side members for receiving one or more spacer elements therein. A surgical system including the spacer device as well as methods of using same are also provided.
Ultrasonic transmitter unit
An ultrasonic transmitter unit includes: a sheath that forms a cylindrical shape and is having a proximal end and a distal end; an ultrasonic transmitter configured to be inserted into the sheath; and a cover member that covers a part of the ultrasonic transmitter and has an inner surface and an outer surface. The ultrasonic transmitter includes: a first area surrounded by the sheath; a second area protruding from the distal end of the sheath; and a distal-end treatment portion provided in a distal end of the second area. The cover member covers the second area of the ultrasonic transmitter, and exposes the distal-end treatment portion of the ultrasonic transmitter to an outside, and is made of fluorine-based resin.
Introducer for uterine tamponade assembly with echogenic element and methods of using the same
A device for use with a uterine tamponade balloon catheter apparatus, such as the Bakri postpartum hemorrhage balloon, is disclosed. The device comprises a stylet comprising a hub at its proximal end and an atraumatic tip at its distal end. The device is configured to be removably coupled to the tamponade balloon catheter apparatus to aid in the insertion and positioning of the tamponade balloon catheter within the uterine cavity, allowing the balloon to function as intended for the control and management of postpartum hemorrhage and uterine bleeding. The tamponade balloon catheter includes an echogenic element to aid in visualization by ultrasound during insertion and use. Methods of use of the device are also disclosed.
Modular spine stabilization system and associated instruments
An implantable, modular spine stabilization system that allows for multi-level treatment of the spine by providing either rigid fixation or dynamic stabilization at different levels to be treated is provided. This modular spine stabilization system may be configured to span multiple spine levels, and have a curvature that closely matches the curvature of the spine over those multiple levels to be treated. Further, the modular spine stabilization system allows adjustment of the curvature of the overall system such that the system may be adapted for a patient for a customized fit. Instruments are also provided for the assembly and/or implantation of the modular spine stabilization system. The associated instruments may include instruments for adjusting the curvature of the system to the patient, and for implanting the curved system into the patient. The instruments may be configured for implantation of the system in a minimally invasive surgery.
Method for monitoring object flow within a surgical space during a surgery
One variation of a method for tracking objects within a surgical space during a surgery includes: based on a first image depicting the surgical space at a first time, detecting a first object and a constellation of objects in the surgical space, estimating distances from each object—in the constellation of objects—to the first object, and calculating a contamination risk of the first object based on contamination scores and distances to the first object for each object in the constellation of objects; calculating a contamination score of the first object based on a combination of the contamination risks of the first object during the surgery; and, in response to the contamination score of the first object exceeding a threshold contamination score prior to contact between the first object and a patient, serving a prompt within the surgical space to address sterility of the first object.
Jaw coordination of robotic surgical controls
An input control device can be configured to operate in different modes depending on proximity data provided by a proximity detection system. The input control device can include a feedback generator configured to generate feedback in response to the input control device switching between operational modes, the proximity data provided by the proximity detection system, and/or other conditions of the surgical procedure, robotic surgical tool, surgical site, and/or patient. The input control device can include a variable resistance assembly for resisting input control motions applied to an actuator thereof. Additionally or alternatively, the input control device can include an end effector actuator assembly for repositioning the end effector actuator based on feedback from a paired robotic surgical tool.
