IDENTIFICATION OF ELECTROSURGICAL ATTACHMENTS USING COLOR INDICATORS
An electrosurgical system includes an electrosurgical attachment having a plug with an indicator. The system may also include an electrosurgical generator having a port configured to couple to the plug. The port may include a detection circuit having: a light emitting device configured to illuminate the indicator with a light and an optical module configured to measure the light reflected by the indicator and determine a color of the indicator. The system may also include a controller configured to identify a type of the electrosurgical attachment based on the color of the indicator.
Instrument insertion compensation
Disclosed herein are systems and techniques for compensating for insertion of an instrument into a working channel of another instrument in a surgical system. According to one embodiment, a method of compensation includes: detecting insertion of an insertable instrument into a working channel of a flexible instrument; detecting, based on a data signal from at least one sensor, a position change of a distal portion of the flexible instrument from an initial position: generating a control signal based on the detected position change; and adjusting a tensioning of a pull wire based on the control signal to return the distal portion to the initial position.
Authentication and informational displays with adaptive lighting array
A display system for a medical suite comprises a scanning device configured to capture scanning data in the medical suite. At least one display configured to display information in an operating region of the medical suite. A controller is in communication with the scanning device and the display. The controller is configured to control the scanning device to capture identifying information of a patient. Based on the identifying information, the controller is configured to authenticate an identity of the patient. Based on the identity, the controller is configured to access a patient record for the patient. The controller is further configured to control the at least one display to display information based on the patient record.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING AND LOCATING REFLECTORS USING ORTHOGONAL SEQUENCES OF REFLECTOR SWITCHING
Systems and methods are provided for identifying and locating a plurality of reflector markers implanted within a target tissue region within a patient's body. A probe is provided that is activated to transmit electromagnetic signals into the patient's body, receive reflected signals from the patient's body, and in synchronization with transmitting the electromagnetic signals, deliver light pulses into the patient's body. The markers reflector tags modulate reflected signals from the respective markers based on orthogonal code sequences opening and closing respective switches of the markers to modulate the reflective properties of the markers. The probe processes the return signals to separate the reflected signals based at least in part on the code sequences to identify and locate each of the plurality of reflector tags substantially simultaneously.

METHOD FOR OPERATING SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SYSTEMS
A method for adjusting the operation of a surgical instrument using machine learning in a surgical suite is disclosed.
Specimen Marking Clip
A specimen marking clip is provided that is adapted to selectively attach to tissue inside of a patient and corresponding tissue that has been excised from the patient for analysis. Sutures may be associated with the clips to help ensure correct in vivo and ex vivo sample orientation. In vivo clips may remain in the patient's body if necessary.
System and methods for guiding a medical instrument
A method of training includes providing a medical device having a tangible proximal portion including a magnetic element, and using a virtual tracking system to simulate a distal portion of the medical device. The virtual tracking system can include a tracking component and a display. The tracking component can be configured to detect a magnetic field of the magnetic element and to generate magnetic field strength data. The tracking component can include a processor that iteratively computes position data of the distal portion of the medical device according to the magnetic field strength data to simulate insertion of the distal portion of the medical device into a body of a patient. The display can be configured to depict an image of the position data of the distal portion of the medical device.
