LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
A lubricating oil composition prepared by blending a base oil (A) containing a compound (A1) that is an ester or ether and has two or more aromatic rings, with a polyalkylene glycol (B) is provided. The lubricating oil composition has a high density (i.e., a high bulk modulus), a high viscosity index, and excellent shear stability.
LUBRICANT BLENDS TO REDUCE REFRIGERANT SOLUBILITY
Compositions, methods, systems, and applications herein are directed to lubricant blends that balance solubility and viscosity of a refrigerant, where in some cases the lubricant blends herein help reduce solubility of a refrigerant. A lubricant blend includes a mixture of two or more different types of lubricants to reduce refrigerant solubility.

wherein R.sub.1 is selected from a substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.6-C.sub.18 alkyl; R.sub.2 is selected from a substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.2-C.sub.18 alkyl or C.sub.2-C.sub.18 alkyl which is interrupted by —O—; R.sub.3 is selected from —NH— or —S—; R.sub.4 is selected from —NH.sub.2, —OH or —SH; and n, p and q are positive integers ranging from 2 to 20000.
REFRIGERATION CYCLE APPARATUS
A refrigeration cycle apparatus includes refrigerant circuits in which a high pressure shell compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger, an expansion valve, and an indoor heat exchanger are connected; a mixed refrigerant containing 1,1,2-trifluoroethylene and a refrigerant other than 1,1,2-trifluorothylene and circulating through the refrigerant circuits; and a refrigerating machine oil enclosed in the refrigerant circuits and adjusted such that 1,1,2-trifluoroethylene will be more soluble therein than the other refrigerant is.

IONIC LIQUIDS CONTAINING QUATERNARY AMMONIUM AND PHOSPHONIUM CATIONS, AND THEIR USE AS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LUBRICANT ADDITIVES
An ionic liquid composition having the following generic structural formula:

wherein Z is N or P, and R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are independently selected from hydrogen atom and hydrocarbon groups having one to four carbon atoms with optional interconnection to form a cyclic group that includes Z, and wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are all hydrocarbon groups when Z is P, and X.sup.− is a phosphorus-containing or carboxylate anion, particularly an organophosphate, organophosphonate, or organophosphinate anion, or a thio-substituted analog thereof containing hydrocarbon groups with at least three carbon atoms. Also described are lubricant compositions comprising the above ionic liquid and a base lubricant, wherein the ionic liquid is dissolved in the base lubricant. Further described are methods for applying the ionic liquid or lubricant composition onto a mechanical device for which lubrication is beneficial, with resulting improvement in friction reduction, wear rate, and/or corrosion inhibition.
IONIC LIQUIDS CONTAINING QUATERNARY AMMONIUM AND PHOSPHONIUM CATIONS, AND THEIR USE AS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LUBRICANT ADDITIVES
An ionic liquid composition having the following generic structural formula:

wherein Z is N or P, and R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are independently selected from hydrogen atom and hydrocarbon groups having one to four carbon atoms with optional interconnection to form a cyclic group that includes Z, and wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are all hydrocarbon groups when Z is P, and X.sup.− is a phosphorus-containing or carboxylate anion, particularly an organophosphate, organophosphonate, or organophosphinate anion, or a thio-substituted analog thereof containing hydrocarbon groups with at least three carbon atoms. Also described are lubricant compositions comprising the above ionic liquid and a base lubricant, wherein the ionic liquid is dissolved in the base lubricant. Further described are methods for applying the ionic liquid or lubricant composition onto a mechanical device for which lubrication is beneficial, with resulting improvement in friction reduction, wear rate, and/or corrosion inhibition.
Emulsifier compositions for invert emulsion fluids and methods of using the same
Drilling fluid compositions include invert emulsion fluids having an oleaginous phase, an aqueous phase, and an emulsifier composition that includes an ethoxylated alcohol compound and a polyaminated fatty acid compound. The ethoxylated alcohol compound has the formula R.sup.1—(OCH.sub.2CH.sub.2).sub.n—OH, where R.sup.1 is a hydrocarbyl group having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms and n is from 1 to 8. The ethoxylated alcohol compound has a Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) of less than or equal to 6. The polyaminated fatty acid compound has the formula R.sup.2—CO—NH—CH.sub.2—CH.sub.2—N(COR.sup.2)—CH.sub.2—CH.sub.2—NH—CO—R.sup.3, where R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms and R.sup.3 is a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an alkylene carboxylate group having formula —R.sup.4—COOH, where R.sup.4 is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbylene having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms. Methods of drilling wells include operating a drill in a wellbore in the presence of drilling fluid compositions.
HYDRAULIC FLUIDS HAVING BIODEGRADABLE POLYALKYLENE GLYCOL RHEOLOGY MODIFIERS USEFUL IN SUBSEA APPLICATIONS
A composition comprising water, a glycol, and a polyalkylene glycol which has a biodegradability of at least 60% as determined using OECD 301F wherein the composition has a kinematic viscosity of at least 25 mm.sup.2/sec at 40° C. is useful as a rheology modifier, particularly in subsea applications. In some instances, the composition comprises 10 to 65 weight % water, 20 to 60 weight % of a glycol selected from ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and tetra ethylene glycol, 10 to 40 weight % of a polyalkylene glycol, and 0 to 10% of additives based on total weight of the composition wherein the polyalkylene glycol has a—molecular weight of no more than 4000 g/mol and is characterized in that it is an oxyethylene/oxypropylene block copolymer having a weight percent of oxyethylene of at least 20% based on total weight of the copolymer.
HYDRAULIC FLUIDS HAVING BIODEGRADABLE POLYALKYLENE GLYCOL RHEOLOGY MODIFIERS USEFUL IN SUBSEA APPLICATIONS
A composition comprising water, a glycol, and a polyalkylene glycol which has a biodegradability of at least 60% as determined using OECD 301F wherein the composition has a kinematic viscosity of at least 25 mm.sup.2/sec at 40° C. is useful as a rheology modifier, particularly in subsea applications. In some instances, the composition comprises 10 to 65 weight % water, 20 to 60 weight % of a glycol selected from ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and tetra ethylene glycol, 10 to 40 weight % of a polyalkylene glycol, and 0 to 10% of additives based on total weight of the composition wherein the polyalkylene glycol has a—molecular weight of no more than 4000 g/mol and is characterized in that it is an oxyethylene/oxypropylene block copolymer having a weight percent of oxyethylene of at least 20% based on total weight of the copolymer.
