Multicomponent electrocardiography monitor

Physiological monitoring can be provided through a lightweight wearable monitor that includes two components, a flexible extended wear electrode patch and a reusable monitor recorder that removably snaps into a receptacle on the electrode patch. The wearable monitor sits centrally on the patient's chest along the sternum oriented top-to-bottom. The placement of the wearable monitor in a location at the sternal midline, with its unique narrow “hourglass”-like shape, significantly improves the ability of the wearable monitor to cutaneously sense cardiac electrical potential signals, particularly the P-wave and the QRS interval signals indicating ventricular activity in the ECG waveforms. In particular, the ECG electrodes on the electrode patch are tailored to be positioned axially along the midline of the sternum for capturing action potential propagation in an orientation that corresponds to the aVF lead used in a conventional 12-lead ECG that is used to sense positive or upright P-waves.

An insert assembly, insertable in a handpiece of a medical device, has an insert having an insert metal tang, a ferromagnetic layer in contact with the insert metal tang, a dielectric layer in contact with the ferromagnetic layer, an insert antenna in contact with the dielectric layer, having an insert antenna metal element and configured to receive and transmit electromagnetic fields, and an identification chip operatively connected to the insert antenna and configured to transmit information about the insert assembly. The ferromagnetic layer reduces or cancels attenuation and/or distortion phenomena of an electromagnetic field caused by parasitic effects due to interaction of a transmitted or received electromagnetic field with metal parts of the insert metal tang, liquids present in the insert, and the insert antenna metal element. The ferromagnetic layer dielectric layer and insert antenna form a transceiver device putting the identification chip in communication with a handpiece antenna.

IMPLANTABLE ARRAY WITH A REFERENCE STRUCTURE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

An implantable array, such as an electrode array, is provided. The array is suitable for being placed in anatomic tissue of a human or animal body, and has a structure for referencing predefined distinct points of the implantable electrode array in magnetic resonance images. A structure is arranged in a predefined portion of the implantable array, where the structure has multiple patterns, each pattern having a predefined form and formed from a material having a magnetic susceptibility which is different from the magnetic susceptibility of the anatomic tissue surrounding the implantable array when placed in the human or animal body. Each pattern is in a predefined spatial relationship with one of the predefined distinct points.
