INNOVATIVE KIT THAT INCLUDES A WEARABLE FOR DETECTING, CHARACTERIZING, AND MONITORING INVOLUNTARY MOVEMENT AND ATTACHABLE NON-INTRUSIVE INTERVENTIONS TO RELIEVE TREMORS IN HUMAN LIMBS

The present invention comprises a novel kit with a wearable unit along with associated intelligent entities and non-intrusive tremor relieving interventions. The interventions include an automatically controllable TENS intervention unit with associated cables and electrodes and a buzzer. The wearable unit along with associated intelligent entities detects involuntary movement signals (tremors) in the limbs by measuring the acceleration in multiple dimensions, and ingeniously analyzes the accelerations to identify and isolate occurrences of tremors. This information is analyzed and monitored over time to provide significant insight about the tremors such as the dominant frequency (or frequencies), percent time with tremor, median tremor duration, and intensity. The TENS unit provides electrical stimulation which can dampen the intensity of involuntary movement and/or temporarily suspend tremor activity. This (TENS) unit can be manually or automatically controlled. The automatic control mode controls the TENS unit depending on the onset of tremors, tremor duration, and intensity of tremors. Furthermore, the parameters of this automatic control can be adjusted.

Using monte carlo and iterative techniques to determine tissue oxygen saturation

A method for determining oxygen saturation includes emitting light from sources into tissue; detecting the light by detectors subsequent to reflection; and generating reflectance data based on detecting the light. The method includes determining a first subset of simulated reflectance curves from a set of simulated reflectance curves stored in a tissue oximetry device for a coarse grid; and fitting the reflectance data points to the first subset of simulated reflectance curves to determine a closest fitting one of the simulated reflectance curves. The method includes determining a second subset of simulated reflectance curves for a fine grid based on the closest fitting one of the simulated reflectance curves; determining a peak of absorption and reflection coefficients from the fine grid; and determining an absorption and a reflectance coefficient for the reflectance data points by performing a weighted average of the absorption coefficients and reflection coefficients from the peak.

A system for targeting a feature on a surgical device, includes a shape sensing element coupled to an interrogator and operable to provide information to related to said portion's position in a reference frame in communication with the targeted feature. The interrogator is operable to poll the shape sensing element for information related to said portion's position in the reference frame. A surgical tool is coupled to the targeting system in communication with the shape sensing element. The data processor is operable to communicate with the interrogator to output position information of the portion of the shape sensing element with respect to a calibrated position, defined as the position of the portion of the shape sensing element in the reference frame when the guide axis is aligned to the targeted feature. A display provides the user visual information comparing the position of the tool to the targeted feature.

Multiple Light Paths Architecture and Obscuration Methods for Signal and Perfusion Index Optimization

A photoplethysmographic (PPG) device is disclosed. The PPG device can include one or more light emitters and one or more light sensors to generate the multiple light paths for measuring a PPG signal and perfusion indices of a user. The multiple light paths between each pair of light emitters and light detectors can include different separation distances to generate both an accurate PPG signal and a perfusion index value to accommodate a variety of users and usage conditions. In some examples, the multiple light paths can include the same separation distances for noise cancellation due to artifacts resulting from, for example, tilt and/or pull of the device, a user's hair, a user's skin pigmentation, and/or motion. The PPG device can further include one or more lenses and/or reflectors to increase the signal strength and/or and to obscure the optical components and associated wiring from being visible to a user's eye.

Dynamic Calibration of A Blood Pressure Measurement Device
20170367659 · 2017-12-28 ·

Various embodiments enable calibrating a non-invasive blood pressure measurement device by determining multiple parameters defining a stress-strain relationship of an artery of a patient. The device may obtain output signals from a blood pressure sensor at two or more measurement elevations. The obtained measurement signals may be filtered into AC and quasi-DC components, and results fit to exponential functions to calculate an arterial time constant and a veinous time constant related to vein draining/filling rates. The arterial and veinous time constants may be used to calculate an infinity ratio. The infinity ratio and the obtained sensor output may be used to calculate values for multiple parameters defining a stress-strain relationship of a measured artery. Once defined, this stress-strain relationship may be stored and applied to future sensor output signals (e.g., blood pressure measuring sessions) to infer patient blood pressure.
