ANGLE PIECE HEAD
20170348068 · 2017-12-07 ·

The angle piece head drives an instrument for operating on dental roots and includes a body having a generally cylindrical cavity and an instrument-holding core in the cavity. The core is shaped to receive and hold the instrument and moves axially and pivotally. The instrument-holding core includes a groove having an offset engaging therewith. The offset engages with one or the other of the two edges of the groove such that the rotation thereof transmits an alternating axial movement to the instrument while enabling same to rotate about the axis of the instrument. The groove includes two portions that extend on either side of a median area. For each portion, the height, namely the distance that separates the two edges, increases from the median area to each end of the groove.

Multi-directional handpiece

A multi-directional handpiece that includes a motor drive extending along and configured for rotation about a body axis, the motor drive having: a motor gearing at a proximal end of the motor drive; and a file gearing in engagement with the motor gearing for transferring the rotational and axial movement to a workpiece; and a housing for the workpiece; and wherein through rotation of the motor drive, the workpiece moves in an axial oscillating motion while being rotated.

Tracking and guidance arrangement for a surgical robot system and related method

A tracking and guidance arrangement for a surgical robot system and related method are provided. The arrangement includes a patient-interacting device including an instrument engaged a distal end of a guide arm and a fiducial marker coupled to maxillofacial anatomy of the patient. A detector is connected to an articulating arm and co-operable therewith to be positioned adjacent to the fiducial marker, with the detector being configured to interact with the fiducial marker. A controller device is configured to receive data from the detector relative to the interaction thereof with the fiducial marker, to determine a spatial relation between the fiducial marker and the detector based on the data, to determine a spatial relation of the instrument relative to the fiducial marker, and to direct the instrument to interact with the maxillofacial anatomy of the patient according to the determined spatial relations.

The present invention relates to a hand operated dental instrument that allows a user to manually operate tool bits that are ordinarily operated by a power operated tool or a unitary hand-held device. The invention includes a handle that carries a shaft; a bore-hole extending through at least a portion of the shaft for receiving a portion of a tool bit; and a spline receiving slot defined in the shaft. The invention also includes a tool bit having a flange that may carry a spline extending along a portion of a longitudinal axis of the tool bit so that when the tool bit is placed in the bore-hole, the spline receiving slot receives the spline so that when the shaft is rotated, the tool bit rotates.

ENDODONTIC HANDPIECE WITH ROTATIONAL AND VERTICAL MOTION
20170245960 · 2017-08-31 ·

An endodontic handpiece including a handpiece body defining a neck portion extending to a head portion which defines a chamber with an opening therefrom. A chalk is positioned in the chamber and includes a cylindrical body having a longitudinal axis, a retainer for holding an endodontic tool co-axially with the cylindrical body, and a pin receiving bore defined in the cylindrical body transverse to the longitudinal axis. A shaft is rotatably supported within the neck portion and having a pin extending from an end thereof and received in the pin receiving bore of the chalk. The pin is offset from a central axis of the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes the chalk to move downwardly, rotate in a clockwise direction, move upwardly and rotate in a counter-clockwise direction over each 360° rotation of the shaft.

A combination includes a dental handpiece and a prophy angle. The dental handpiece includes a nosecone threadably connected to the dental handpiece. The prophy angle includes a proximal body that matingly attaches to the nosecone. A plurality of elongated torque members are formed on each of the prophy angle proximal body and the nosecone. Each of the torque members is a male torque member or a female torque member and each male torque member formed on one of the prophy angle proximal body and the nosecone matingly couples with a female torque member formed on the other of the nosecone and the prophy angle proximal body. The prophy angle, including the plurality of elongated torque members formed on the prophy angle, is formed to also be attachable to a known standard doriot-style nosecone. Other specific features of the handpiece and prophy angle are also disclosed.

Medical or dental handpiece with inductive coupling

Various medical or dental handpieces having at least one coil for inductive coupling with a second coil and methods for using these handpieces for the transmission of at least one of power, operational data and identification data are described. Also various tool-holding/releasing devices for medical or dental handpieces are described, having at least one shaped element penetrating through a bore in a hollow shaft for accommodating a tool and protruding through the bore into the hollow shaft, a movably arranged locking sleeve cooperating with the shaped element and an operating element for moving the locking sleeve. Some of these tool-holding/releasing devices allow the insertion of the tool into the hollow shaft with different insertion depths.

A reciprocating endodontic hand tool in which the torque applied to an instrument such as a debriding file can be set at or below an endurance limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur. In preferred embodiments the tool can switch between settings in which the torque applied to the instrument is between the endurance limit of the file and an elastic limit of the file, by setting forward and reverse angles of rotation within specified limits. This reduces or eliminates opportunities for plastic distortion, fatigue and breakage of the file during the canal debriding/cleaning/shaping process in a root canal treatment or retreatment. In some embodiments the torque may be set to at or below a durability limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur through repetitive strain over the course of a particular root canal treatment or retreatment.
