Disclosed are devices, systems and methods for treating periodontal disease and/or other oral wounds using oral appliances and associated negative pressure systems.

The present invention concerns a novel use of therapeutic hydrogels in nonsurgical techniques to promote healing and regeneration of tissues whose structure and functions have been diminished due to chronic inflammatory disorders. More particularly, the invention provides therapeutic and regenerative hydrogel compositions and their nonsurgical delivery to periodontal treatment sites to treat periodontal and peri-implant diseases. Furthermore, the invention concerns a novel technique which involves the injection of said sterile therapeutic biomimetic hyaluronic acid hydrogel to which are tethered at least one host modulating agent, such as tetrahydrocurcuminoids, THC, and at least one additional tissue regenerative agent into the gingival connective tissue proper. The host modulating agent potentiates the periodontal tissue regeneration at the periodontal treatment site, while the biomimetic hyaluronic acid hydrogel serves in a dual capacity as a drug, a tissue regenerative agent carrier and as a biodegradable matrix around which the new connective tissue can regenerate. The invention also concerns oral care gel and paste compositions of at least one host modulating agent tethered to the HA tissue regenerative hydrogel formulated to be used in a synergistic home-based oral care regimen.

The present invention provides devices and methods for controlled and continuous delivery of drugs into the brain by bypassing the blood brain barrier, without the need for any surgical manipulation of the brain. The respiratory mucosa in the maxillary sinus or in the nasal region is surgically accessed from the oral or maxillofacial region through a window made on the bone overlying the mucosa. The device is used to deliver drugs in a continuous and controlled manner either beneath or above the respiratory mucosa depending on the clinical requirements, drug formulation and the volume of drug used. The drug distributes into the brain from the delivery site by bypassing the blood brain barrier without causing any significant increase of the drug in the peripheral circulation. The device can be used for continuous and controlled drug delivery into the brain by bypassing the blood brain barrier for a number of medical conditions.

A medical that is implantable into a human or animal body or being an augmentation device for strengthening human or animal hard tissue for subsequent implantation of a separate implant. The device includes a sheath element suitable of being brought into contact, during a surgical operation, with live hard tissue and/or with hard tissue replacement material. The sheath element has a, for example, generally elongate shape and a longitudinal bore defining a longitudinal opening reaching from a proximal end of the sheath element into a distal direction, and a plurality of holes in a wall of the opening. Systems and methods are generally described for an oral hygiene device. The oral hygiene device may include a handle portion and a head portion coupled to the handle portion and including a pick head interface. A pick head may be removably coupled to the pick head interface. The pick head may include a pointed pick member. An image capture device may be disposed in the head portion. The image capture device may be effective to capture image data representing images of an area proximal to a tip of the pointed pick member. A vibration element may be coupled to the pick head interface. The vibration element may be effective to vibrate the pick head.

An oral care implement for dispensing an oral care agent includes a housing, reservoir therein containing an oral care fluid, and an electrical circuit comprising first and second electrodes connected to an onboard power source. Each electrode is in contact with the oral care fluid in the housing. An actuator, operably coupled to the power source, is configured to both selectively energize the circuit and activate dispensing of the oral care fluid. An electrical charge is applied to the oral care fluid by activating the actuator when dispensing the oral care fluid. When the fluid comprises a peroxide based tooth whitening agent, the dispensed fluid pH is increased by the electrical charge which improves the efficacy of the whitener. In one embodiment, the implement is a modular system including a powered base unit and one or more interchangeable cartridges each having a reservoir containing an oral care fluid.

A dental device comprising: a handle and; a stem. The stem having a tip with an end. The tip has a first groove winding therearound extending from a first distal point proximate the end towards the handle at least one complete turn around the tip to a first-groove termination point. The stem has a first flange projecting outward therefrom and winding therearound. The first flange extends away from the handle from a first proximal point towards the end of the tip to a first-flange termination point. At least a portion of the stem having the first groove and at least a portion of the first flange is suitable for insertion into an area between two teeth, whereby the area between the teeth may be cleaned by the at least a portion of the stem inserted between the teeth.

A device for providing a beneficial effect to an oral cavity of a mammal, the device providing: a liquid for contacting a plurality of surfaces of the oral cavity, wherein the liquid is effective for providing the beneficial effect to the oral cavity, and reciprocation of the liquid over the plurality of surfaces of the oral cavity under conditions effective to provide the beneficial effect.
