A strapping system for retaining a rigid support member of an orthopedic brace in a desired utilitarian position on a body of a wearer is provided which includes a strap having a first strap end, a second strap end and an intermediate strap point between the strap ends. The strap is operatively configured to follow a strap path having a first connection point, a second connection point and a third connection point sequentially positioned on the support member. The first strap end is attached to the first connection point and the strap extends from the first connection point around the body of the wearer to the second connection point where the intermediate strap point is attached thereto. The strap is redirected at the second connection point in an opposing direction and extends back around the body of the wearer to the third connection point where the second strap end is attached thereto.

In the first stage the orthotic includes a stiff relatively brace assembly that can limit the amount of allowed flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction. In the second stage the relatively stiff brace can be removed and the orthotic can be used as a soft wrap. In both stages the orthotic is configured to easily mount and retain a thermal pack in a desired position or positions. In many instances the thermal pack will be a cold pack, but in some cases a hot pack may be used as well.

The buttress is positioned against the side of the knee opposite the support assembly and applies a variable compression force to the knee. The tensioning line engages the cam and operatively connects it to the buttress via the buttress retention flap to automatically vary the compression force applied to the knee in response to rotation of the support assembly.

The pelvic fracture splint includes a first portion having a first end and an opposing second end and a second portion having an opening defined therein, the second portion extending downward from the first portion of the pelvic fracture splint substantially at the mid-section of the first portion. The pelvic fracture splint also includes a plurality of strips (preferably three strips) selectively fastening the opposing ends of the first portion and the second portion of the pelvic fracture splint to secure the pelvic fracture splint around the person's waist or hips and groin. The first portion includes a plurality of splints (rigid supports, preferably six in number) vertically positioned along the first portion at spaced apart positions. The opening in the second portion of the pelvic fracture splint may have a triangular shape to avoid placing any unnecessary pressure on the person's genitals.
