Surgical Knife Safety Handle

A surgical knife safety device having a handle, a blade connected to the handle, and a guard carried by the handle for sliding movement between a retracted position in which the blade is exposed for use, and an extended position for covering the sharp cutting edge of the blade. In the retracted position, an enlarged guard radius is provided at the distal end of the handle to allow improved handle control and blade orientation. The enlarged guard radius is positioned to allow the user to firmly grip a large distal handle portion which is preferably molded as a single piece with the blade holder, preventing unwanted blade or handle movement due to guard mechanism tolerances.

REFRACTIVE TREATMENT OF AN EYE BY PRINTING MATERIAL ONTO A TARGET
20190240070 · 2019-08-08 ·

In certain embodiments, a system for performing refractive treatment of an eye comprises a laser, a printer, and a computer. The laser emits a laser beam to prepare the eye for the refractive treatment. The printer prints material onto a print area of a target. The printer comprises a printer head and a printer controller. The printer head directs the material onto the print area, and the printer controller moves the printer head to direct the material onto a specific location of the print area. The computer comprises a memory and processors. The memory stores instructions for a pattern for the target. The pattern is designed to provide the refractive treatment for the eye. The processors instruct the printer controller to move the printer head to print the material onto the print area according to the pattern.

Real-time surgical reference indicium apparatus and methods for astigmatism correction

A system, method, and apparatus for guiding an astigmatism correction procedure on an eye of a patient are disclosed. An example apparatus include a photosensor configured to record a pre-operative still image of an ocular target surgical site of the patient. The apparatus also includes a real-time, multidimensional visualization module configured to produce a real-time multidimensional visualization of the ocular target surgical site during an astigmatism correction procedure. The apparatus further includes a data processor configured to determine a virtual indicium that includes data for guiding the astigmatism correction procedure. The data processor uses the pre-operative still image to align the virtual indicium with the multidimensional visualization such that the virtual indicium is rotationally accurate. The data processor then displays the multidimensional visualization of the ocular target surgical site in conjunction with the virtual indicium.

Apparatus for Changing the Refractive Power of the Cornea

The invention relates to an apparatus for changing the refractive power of the cornea (1), in particular for correcting hyperopia or presbyopia, exhibiting injection means (13, 15) having at least one hollow needle (15) for injecting at least one optically transparent filling material having a predetermined refractive index into an intrastromal corneal pocket (7), characterized by a controllable injection drive (17) that is coupled at least indirectly to the injection means (13, 15) and is designed for changing an amount, to be injected, of the at least one filling material; a device for optical coherence tomography (OCT) (19) that is designed for monitoring the area of the corneal pocket (7) by means of measurement of depth profiles of the cornea (1) on a repeatedly cycled-through scan pattern; and a computing unit (21) that is designed and/or configured to determine from the measurement data of the OCT device (19) at least the radius of curvature of the front (3) of the cornea (1) keeping pace temporally with the repetitions of the scan pattern cycle during the injection, wherein the computing unit (21) is designed and/or configured to control the injection drive (17) for changing the injected amount of the at least one filling material, and namely on the basis of the radius of curvature of the front (3) of the cornea (1) and/or such until a predetermined target criterion is fulfilled.

Capsular membrane treatments to increase accommodative amplitude

This apparatus treats the lens capsule so as to increase accommodation of the eye. The treatment of the lens capsule may comprise treating a portion of the lens capsule so as to stiffen the treated portion and improve accommodation of the eye. The intermediate portion of the lens capsule may be located between an optically used central portion of the lens capsule and a peripheral portion of the lens capsule connected to zonules of the eye. The stiffened intermediate portion of the lens capsule can improve coupling of the peripheral portion of the lens capsule to the central portion of the lens capsule, such that an amount of accommodation of the optically used central portion of the lens is increased. As the force of the lens capsule to a lens disposed within the lens capsule is increased, the lens may comprise the natural lens of the eye or an artificial lens such as an accommodative IOL. The treatment of the eye to stiffen the intermediate portion may comprise application of one or more of an energy or a substance to the intermediate portion.
