SYSTEM, APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR RECOGNIZING SURGICAL ARTICLES LEFT INSIDE PATIENTS
System, methods and apparatus related to surgical articles used during surgery. The system, methods and apparatus may include features such as an element/substrate added to surgical articles which enables the recognition by human visualization of the surgical articles when left inside patient bodies when viewed with medical imaging technologies. The element/substrate may include a plurality of three dimensional objects. Alternatively, the element/substrate may comprise a ribbon of radiopaque material having cut-puts or other radiolucent regions which provide image artifacts observable under fluoroscopic imaging.

SURGICAL GAUZE
A surgical gauze includes a single-layer fabric having fibers of at least two groups of fibers. The fibers of the first group of fibers have a higher regain rate than the fibers of the second group of fibers. The fibers of the first group are made of cotton and are white. The fibers of the second group of fibers are made of polymeric material and are blue or green. The first and second groups of fibers identify different regions in the gauze which can be recognized by color with the naked eye before and after use in an operating site. The second group of fibers have a regain rate of less than 1% and weigh less than 10% by weight on the total weight of the surgical gauze.

Disclosed is a diaper for sensing urine and feces including a waterproof cover, an absorbing layer located on the inner side of the waterproof cover, and a lining layer located on the inner side of the absorbing layer, wherein the lining layer includes multiple conductive sensing lines positioned on the inner surface of the lining layer that makes contact with the human body, wherein the conductive sensing lines are arranged spaced apart from each other, wherein at least one of the electrical resistance, capacitance, and inductance between the conductive sensing lines changes upon contact between the conductive sensing lines and urine or feces.

Disclosed is a diaper for sensing urine and feces including a waterproof cover, an absorbing layer located on the inner side of the waterproof cover, and a lining layer located on the inner side of the absorbing layer, wherein the lining layer includes multiple conductive sensing lines positioned on the inner surface of the lining layer that makes contact with the human body, wherein the conductive sensing lines are arranged spaced apart from each other, wherein at least one of the electrical resistance, capacitance, and inductance between the conductive sensing lines changes upon contact between the conductive sensing lines and urine or feces.
RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE PROCESSING PROGRAM
A first detection unit detects a region of a first surgical tool which should not be present in a body of a patient from a radiographic image of the patient. A second detection unit detects a region of a second surgical tool which should be or may be present in the body of the patient from the radiographic image. In a case in which at least one of the region of the first surgical tool or the region of the second surgical tool is detected, a display control unit displays the radiographic image on a display unit such that the detected region of the surgical tool is highlighted.
RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE PROCESSING PROGRAM
A first detection unit detects a region of a first surgical tool which should not be present in a body of a patient from a radiographic image of the patient. A second detection unit detects a region of a second surgical tool which should be or may be present in the body of the patient from the radiographic image. In a case in which at least one of the region of the first surgical tool or the region of the second surgical tool is detected, a display control unit displays the radiographic image on a display unit such that the detected region of the surgical tool is highlighted.
Surgical sponge locator system
A surgical sponge locator system for locating sponges after surgery for removal includes a base having a sponge portion and a housing portion. A plurality of surgical sponges is coupled within the base. Each surgical sponge has a signal receiver and a sound emitter in operational communication with the signal receiver. An antenna is coupled to the base and is in wireless communication with the signal receiver of each surgical sponge. A plurality of batteries is coupled within the base. A battery activator is coupled within the base. The battery activator selectively interrupts or allows operational communication between the plurality of batteries and the antenna. A sound activation lever is coupled to the housing portion and is in operational communication with the antenna.
