Method for injecting a loaded slurry into a fibrous texture
A method for manufacturing a part made of composite material includes injecting into a fibrous texture a slurry including at least one powder of refractory ceramic particles suspended in a liquid phase, filtering the liquid phase of the slurry and retaining the powder of refractory ceramic particles inside the texture so as to obtain a fibrous preform loaded with refractory ceramic particles, densifying the fibrous texture by treatment of the refractory ceramic particles present in the fibrous texture in order to form a refractory matrix in the texture. The method further includes, before injecting the slurry under pressure, pre-saturating the fibrous texture with a carrier fluid consisting in injecting into said texture a carrier fluid.
Porous sol gels and methods and structures related thereto
A method of forming a porous sol gel, including a dried porous sol gel, is provided comprising forming a sol gel from a sol gel-forming composition comprising a silane solution and a catalyst solution; and non-supercritically drying the sol gel to provide a dried porous sol gel having no springback. The dried porous sol gel can include dried macroporous or mesoporous sol gels or dried hybrid aerogels. The materials may contain open or filled pores. Such materials are useful as thermal insulators.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A PART MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL WITH COMPLIANCE CONTROL
Method for manufacturing a composite material part includes injecting a slurry containing a refractory ceramic particle powder into a fibrous texture, draining the liquid from the slurry that passed through the fibrous texture and retaining the refractory ceramic particle powder inside said texture so as to obtain a fibrous preform loaded with refractory ceramic particles, and demoulding of the fibrous preform. The method includes, after demoulding the fibrous preform, checking the compliance of the demoulded fibrous preform. If the preform is noncompliant, the method also includes, before a sintering, immersing the demoulded fibrous preform in a bath of a liquid suitable for decompacting the refractory ceramic particles present in the fibrous preform, and additionally injecting a slurry containing a refractory ceramic particle powder into the fibrous preform present in the mould cavity.
Forming features in additively manufactured composite materials using sacrificial support materials
A method may include depositing a sacrificial support material on or adjacent to a build surface. The sacrificial support material may be configured to support a continuous reinforcement material during an additive manufacturing technique. The method also may include extruding the continuous reinforcement material from an additive manufacturing device such that at least a portion of the continuous reinforcement material contacts and is supported by the sacrificial support material; and removing the sacrificial support material to result in a feature defined at least in part by the continuous reinforcement material at the absence of sacrificial support material.
HYBRID WOVEN FIBER PREFORM-REINFORCED COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF
The present disclosure discloses a hybrid woven fiber preform-reinforced composite material, including a fiber preform, a composite material interface and a matrix, where the fiber preform is a three-dimensional fabric hybrid woven by 2-5 high-performance inorganic fibers, and the matrix is selected from the group consisting of resin, light alloy, carbon and ceramic. A preparation method of the composite material includes: preparing ceramic slurry, fiber bundle impregnation treatment, fiber weaving, molding of three-dimensional overall structure preform, preform heat treatment, preparing interface and preparing matrix. The present disclosure improves the weaving performance of inorganic rigid fibers, and the prepared hybrid woven fiber preform-reinforced composite material has desirable integrity, high interlayer bonding strength, and is not easy to layer. Meanwhile, the present disclosure realizes the functions of wave transmission, wave-absorbing, high-temperature structural material, thermal insulation and thermal prevention through the combination of hybrid woven fibers.
EXHAUST GAS CONTROL VALVE
A valve including: a housing; a rotating member positioned within the housing; and an actuator engaged with the rotating member; wherein the rotating member has a generally cylindrical form and at least one cavity extending through a portion of the generally cylindrical form in a direction generally perpendicular to an axis of the generally cylindrical form; wherein the rotating member is positioned within the housing such that, during operation of the valve, the actuator rotates the rotating member within the housing about the axis of the generally cylindrical form, and upon completion of about 90° of rotation of the rotating member about the axis, the at least one cavity becomes aligned within the housing to change the valve from an open condition to a closed condition, or from a closed condition to an open condition; and wherein the rotating member includes inorganic fibers and at least one binder. Methods of making and using the valve are also contemplated.

Disclosed herein is a ceramic matrix composite airfoil comprising a triple bifurcated ply that defines a suction side, an outer platform, a pressure side and an inner platform of the airfoil, wherein the triple bifurcated ply comprises at least one ply that comprises a consolidated region, wherein the consolidated region is split into two bifurcated regions in three locations in three different directions.
MOLTEN METAL PROCESSING APPARATUS
The present invention relates to a composite material comprising wollastonite fibres embedded within a ceramic matrix. The wollastonite fibres are bonded to the ceramic matrix by a glassy bonding phase comprising a glass component comprising at least 80 wt % of oxides of calcium, silicon and aluminium. The material is used in the processing of molten metal, e.g. as a pump, degasser, flux injector or scrap submergence device.
ULTRA-LOW THERMAL MASS REFRACTORY ARTICLE
An ultra-low thermal mass refractory article includes fibers impregnated with a colloidal inorganic oxide. The refractory article has at least one of the following properties: (i) a density of 500 kg/m.sup.3 to 1500 kg/m.sup.3; (ii) a thermal conductivity of 1.0 Wm/K or less at 700° C.; and/or (iii) a linear thermal shrinkage at 1400° C. of less than 2.5%.
CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE COMPONENT HAVING LOW DENSITY CORE AND METHOD OF MAKING
Disclosed is a ceramic matrix component having a fibrous core and a ceramic matrix composite shell surrounding at least a portion of the fibrous core. The ceramic matrix composite shell comprises a fibrous preform. The fibrous core has a greater porosity than the fibrous preform. A method of making the ceramic matrix component is also disclosed.
