An object of the present invention is to provide a polyisocyanurate foam having excellent flame retardancy and a heat insulator and building material comprising the same. A flame retardant polyisocyanurate foam produced by curing a mixture comprising a polyol (A), a surfactant (B), a catalyst (C), a blowing agent (D), a polyisocyanate (E) and a flame retardant (F), wherein the catalyst (C) comprises a trimerization catalyst; the water content in the blowing agent (D) is less than 0.2 parts by mass based on 100 parts by mass of the total of the polyol (A) and the polyisocyanate (E); the flame retardant (F) comprises a red phosphorus-based flame retardant and aluminum hydroxide, and the volume average diameter of the aluminum hydroxide is not less than 40 m when measured by laser diffractometry; the total content of the red phosporus-based flame retardant and the aluminum hydroxide is 6 to 36 parts by mass based on 100 parts by mass of the total of the polyol (A) and the polyisocyanate (E); and the equivalent ratio of an isocyanate group in the polyisocyanate (E) to the total active hydrogen groups contained in the polyol (A), the surfactant (B), the catalyst (C) and the blowing agent (D) (NCO/OH ratio) is more than 2.0.

Isocyanate based organic xerogels with reduced density

A synthesis method for making an isocyanate based organic xerogel having a low density (i.e. <400 kg/m.sup.3) and a small pore size (<150 nm) in combination with a specific surface area >100 m.sup.2/g is disclosed. The synthesis method avoiding or reducing gel shrinkage during the solvent removal step is characterized by the step wherein the organic solvent used to synthesize the isocyanate based organic xerogel is replaced by water such that during the solvent removal step only water needs to be removed to dry the porous network and to obtain the isocyanate based organic xerogel.

THIOURETHANE BASED AEROGELS

The present invention relates to a thiourethane based aerogels obtained by reacting an isocyanate compound having a functionality equal to or greater than 2 and a thiol compound having a functionality equal to or greater than 2 in the presence of a solvent. Aerogels according to the present invention are generally hydrophobic, high performance materials. Aerogels according to the present invention are light weight they have low thermal conductivity, low shrinkage and high mechanical properties.

This disclosure provides a pigmented primer composition for forming an n-acyl urea coating on a substrate. The pigmented primer composition includes a polycarbodiimide-polyurethane hybrid. The pigmented primer composition also includes an acid functional polymer and an organic solvent, and includes less than or equal to 10 weight percent of water based on a total weight of the pigmented primer composition. The pigmented primer composition also includes a pigment, an inorganic filler, and less than about 100 parts by weight of toluene diisocyanate per one million parts by weight of the pigmented primer composition. The n-acyl urea coating exhibits corrosion resistance of 2 to 10 as determined using ASTM B117 and ASTM D-1654-08 on a substrate that is unpolished cold rolled steel, aluminum, or galvanized steel.

The present disclosure relates to a method for producing a composition containing isocyanate and isocyanurate groups having the following steps: 1) mixing a monomer polyisocyanate with polymer diphenylmethane diisocyanate, thereby obtaining a mixture, and 2) allowing the mixture obtained in step 1) to react in the presence of a trimerization catalyst, thereby obtaining a composition containing isocyanate and isocyanurate groups. The monomer polyisocyanate used in step 1) has a total chlorine content of <100 ppm (determined using an X-ray fluorescence analysis according to DIN 51577 (1994) part 4). The present disclosure further relates to compositions which can be obtained using the aforementioned method, to the production of PUR/PIR rigid foams made of the compositions, to the rigid foams themselves, and to the use of such rigid foams.
