PLANTS WITH IMPROVED GROWTH
The present invention relates to genetically modified woody plants comprising a heterologous nucleic acid construct comprising a promoter sequence operably linked to a coding sequence encoding a gibberellin 20-oxidase gene product, wherein the promoter is preferentially or specifically expressed in meristematic tissue of said plant. The invention further relates to methods for producing such plants and to certain nucleic acid molecules useful as promoters.
TRANSGENIC PLANTS HAVING ALTERED BIOMASS COMPOSITION
Methods and materials for modulating biomass composition in plants are disclosed. For example, nucleic acids encoding biomass composition-modulating polypeptides are disclosed as well as methods for using such nucleic acids to transform plant cells. Also disclosed are plants having altered biomass composition and plant products produced from plants having altered biomass composition.
Compositions and methods for improving crop yields through trait stacking
The present disclosure provides modified, transgenic, or genome edited/mutated corn plants that are semi-dwarf and have one or more improved ear traits relative to a control plant, such as increase in ear diameter, single kernel weight, ear fresh weight, ear area, ear volume, ear length, number of kernels per ear, and yield. The modified, transgenic, or genome edited/mutated corn plants comprise a transgene encoding one or more MADS-box polypeptides and have a reduced expression of one or more GA20 or GA3 oxidase genes. Also provided are methods for producing the modified, transgenic, or genome edited/mutated corn plants.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR IMPROVING CROP YIELDS THROUGH TRAIT STACKING
The present disclosure provides modified, transgenic, or genome edited/mutated corn plants that are semi-dwarf and have one or more improved ear traits and yield relative to a control plant, such as increased ear area, increased ear volume, increased single kernel weight, increased ear fresh weight, increased ear diameter, increased ear length, increased yield, increased kernels per ear, decreased ear tip void, and decreased ear void. The modified, transgenic, or genome edited/mutated corn plants comprise a transgene encoding one or more CONSTANS (CO) or CONSTANS-like (COL) polypeptides and a transgene encoding one or more MADS-box polypeptides, and can also have a reduced expression of one or more GA20 or GA3 oxidase genes. Also provided are methods for producing the modified, transgenic, or genome edited/mutated corn plants.
Methods and compositions for short stature plants through manipulation of gibberellin metabolism to increase harvestable yield
The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for altering gibberellin (GA) content in corn or other cereal plants. Methods and compositions are also provided for altering the expression of genes related to gibberellin biosynthesis through suppression, mutagenesis and/or editing of specific subtypes of GA20 or GA3 oxidase genes. Modified plant cells and plants having a suppression element or mutation reducing the expression or activity of a GA oxidase gene are further provided comprising reduced gibberellin levels and improved characteristics, such as reduced plant height and increased lodging resistance, but without off-types.
MANAGEMENT OF CORN THROUGH SEMI-DWARF SYSTEMS
Methods for providing compositions to corn fields prior to harvesting are provided herein. These methods provide an extended time period for the use of lower height or standard height farm equipment in-season in corn fields, while reducing the risk of damage to the corn plants. These methods also allow for late season access with lower height or standard height farm equipment, while reducing the risk of damage to the corn plants.
METHODS FOR IMPROVED HYBRID CORN SEED PRODUCTION
Methods for improving the efficiency and productivity of hybrid corn seed production are provided herein. Various methods to improve the transfer of pollen from male corn plants to female corn plants, and thus increase yield, are provided herein. Without being limiting, these methods include varying the height of male and female corn plants in a field, as well as varying the number, arrangement, and ratio of male-to-female rows in a field.
Wheat with new alleles of RHT-B1
The present invention provides a wheat plant comprising an Rht-B1 allele which encodes an Rht-B1 (DELLA) poly-peptide. Grain from a near-isogenic wheat line comprising the dwarfing Rht-B1c allele was subjected to sodium azide mutagenesis. Plants exhibiting early leaf elongation rates or mature plant height greater than the dwarf parent were selected and the Rht-B1 gene sequenced. This identified 35 mutated alleles of Rht-B1c. Similar methods were also used to identify mutant alleles of the dwarfing s1n1d allele in barley, where DELLA is encoded by the s1n1 gene.

Plants exhibiting early leaf elongation rates or mature plant height greater than the dwarf parent were selected and the Rht-B1 gene sequenced. This identified 35 mutated alleles of Rht-B1c. Similar methods were also used to identify mutant alleles of the dwarfing sln1d allele in barley, where DELLA is encoded by the sln1 gene.
